felt lied to about "pool repairs" it was major rep
We just stayed here and came in on 6-6-19 and staying 3 days I had booked this months ago. About a week before we received an email letting us know that we could cancel due to work being done on the pool and patio area. Then I received a phone call from the hotel 2 days prior to our stay again asking if we wanted to cancel. I cant cancel because I work and this was my scheduled vacation and everywhere else was booked. I asked specifically asked the gentleman on the phone if the room I would be staying in would be affected and was told no we would be far away from the "work being done on the pool" When we got there we were given room 307 on the 3rd floor. We got to our room which was very small and the bath very tiny and wanted to see the "king room ocean view" well the ocean view was obstructed by the now "unforeseen" repairs that needed to be done to the outside of the hotel. Sorry but this was major work being done they had to have know about the repairs awhile ago, If I knew a few months ago about the motel repair I would not have stayed. The staff was good but I felt I was lied to about the pool repairs being done it wasn't just the pool it was the hotel itself. We travel to San Diego once or twice a year and will never stay at this establishment again.. The room itself very tiny no microwave the carpet very dirty needs to be torn up and put new flooring in. The bathroom smelled kind of musty. The parking spaces very small and it's hidden in website but it is 22.00

Paid right at $600 for 2 nights stay. For that price I can get a standard room at a Hyatt, so I expect the room to be clean and fairly updated. Upon arrival to the room we had to call the front desk because our patio furniture was so filthy we could use it. They brought us to new chairs that at least the seats were cleaned, good thing we didn't mind all the cob webs on the legs of the new chairs. The bath room was not clean, my wife wore flip flops in the shower. Here's the thing, I understand it is ocean front and a more run down non daily maintenance hotel however it is just over priced. $300 a night should at least get you a clean room and a room entry door that doesn't have gaps in it to the outside. In my opinion, even though it is ocean front high season, $150-200 a night would have been the high end for this type of hotel and room. Again if your going to charge $300 a night, ocean front or not, the property needs renovated, updated and supervisors for housekeeping because it just isn't worth the price. Especially when I have stayed at other hotels in PB and they are cheaper and cleaner. Just my point of view. The rest of the stay was fine. Great view, staff that we did interact with seem friendly. They charge I think it was $25 a night to park, no big deal. Close to eats, entertainment, bars and of course the ocean.

Beach front property for a fraction of the proce
Surfer Beach Hotel is a mix of good and bad- for us it was perfect! We were right on Mission beach and so I could go straight to the beach with my baby and go straight back to the hotel for a nap without having to walk for blocks. My other daughter had 3 days of surf lessons on the same beach so I could watch and not have to trek to another beach- I was able to juggle both kids and enjoy our vacation! I could not have done this at any other hotel for the budget we had! We also sat on out balcony in the evenings and watched the sun set and the evening surfers from there. We could get lots of good food within a 5 minute walk. The hotel itself is older and a bit funky- not luxurious by any stretch- but hey- beach front hotels are usually not in my price range! Also remember- San Diego is a big city! Although this area is a bit touristy- it is still directly in San Diego so there is city noise and city traffic- it’s not some isolated beach paradise! Also being at the hotel during one of the hottest weeks in San Diego- it was hot! And there is no air conditioning in the rooms- it didn’t bother us since we just took a cold swim or shower before bed- but I can see this being an issue for some.

Exactly as per the name, this is a surfer hotel. It's right on the beach. If you're looking for a traditional hotel experience, this isn't it. The rooms are average to small. And if at all possible, you want to avoid the first floor. However, the pool is nice and clean. And most importantly, the Front Desk staff are amazing. We were a family of 4 (with two teenagers). We had a bunch of requests at check-in. Sam was fantastic. He did everything possible and then some to ensure we were comfortable. And when we foolishly went out and got sunburn the next day, Sam's colleagues gave us their personal aloe to use as much as we needed. The facilities at this hotel may not be the greatest. But the staff absolutely make sure that you enjoy your stay.

Great location and the correspondence was good with the staff friendly, but we were disappointed as the hotel is old and tired, it needs work and this wasn’t reflected in the pictures. However it’s in a great location and we got a good price. The cleaners at this hotel are great. The bed linen is clean and fresh. The curtains were dirty and worn through it spoilt the first impression of the room completely. Outside the property also needs some attention as the climate has taken it’s toll. If you get a good price this location is great, welcoming and comfortable, the lobby coffee is a nice extra touch.
