Poor 2.0
Rude staff. Stay has put me off Hilton for life.
I was so disappointed with my stay at this hotel. My husband and I were staying for two nights as we were exhibiting at a conference at the ExCel which was close by, however, upon check-in the Receptionist told me I'd only booked one night and tried to charge me an additional £220 for the extra night which was considerably more than what I'd paid in the first place. I had the receipt in front of me which clearly said two nights and when I showed her she said that 'It wasn't her problem and that I needed to contact Hotels.com'. She was exceptionally rude. At this point I asked to speak to the Manager who was immediately able to find my booking and offered me a cookie to apologise for her colleague's rudeness - needless to say, this didn't turn the situation around. When we got to the room, we found it was really small and the bed was a double, rather than a King which meant for a cosy nights sleep - not in a good way. The next day, I went downstairs to collect my key for the second night and was greeted by another rude receptionist. First impressions go along way, and I will definitely not forget the experience I received here. I'm now put off ever staying at a Hilton again and if I was to ever exhibit at the ExCel again in the future, I would get the 10 minute cab to Canary Wharf rather than staying here. It was so disappointing.

Hilton need to do better
The hotel is one of several Just a stones throw from Excel. It was fine for one night but I wouldn’t want to stay longer. We were greeted at reception with the offer of warm cookies. Loved this! Perhaps other hotels could do the same! Check in was quick and easy and we then headed to the lifts. There was a queue as the hotel has two small lifts and one wasn’t working. It still wasn’t working the day we left. We eventually got to the room and was initially pleased with what we saw. However, the devil is in the detail... The room overlooked the laundry bins in the car park and where staff went to smoke so it was a bit noisy at times. Oh yes, and you do sometimes hear the aeroplanes taking off at City Airport which is opposite the hotel across the Thames. We opened the wardrobe and saw it was one of those ridiculous front to back rails. Why would anyone want those? It makes it difficult to remove anything from behind the first item of clothing! We then realised there was no chest of drawers in the room. Just one small bedside cabinet which wasn’t really suitable for storing clothes in. We also noticed the was a USB plug socket on just one side of the bed. Why not both? The bathroom had a big walk in shower which looked good. Sadly, the water pressure wasn’t great so it was disappointing. No dressing gowns or slippers provided. Service at breakfast was poor. Had to ask for cutlery, as did others! Avoid the mushrooms and eggs...

Good convention center location
The overall stay was good. It is very convenient to Excel convention center. Literally a 5 min walk. There aren’t many good restaurants close by but the train is very close, where you can travel a bit and find better restaurants. The hotel breakfast was very good and the restaurant food is also very good. I had dinner there twice and was not disappointed. The chef was very accommodating when I asked for veggies instead of fries without changing the price. Veronika, in the restaurant was exceptional. Very sweet and pleasant. Everyone in the restaurant of the hotel was lovely and gave really good service. However, I found that Venesa at the front desk had a terrible disposition. When asked questions she seemed almost annoyed, so I stayed clear of her and worked with the other ladies at the front desk. They were very pleasant and very helpful. The consierge was excellent, very helpful and pleasant. Just know that they DO NOT have refrigerators and microwaves in the rooms. You may have to request one and if it’s available it may be an additional cost. The views are beautiful as the hotel is by the water. The gym is good and the equipment was in very good condition. Good place to stay.

I did not get any sleep or rest here.
No sleep for 3 nights as the flashing red smoke alarm is placed directly above your bed in line with your eyes. I go to a good hotel for a good night's sleep. If I can't get a good night's sleep then this is not a good hotel and I can't give you a good review. I spoke with front desk and asked if they can tape over the flashing lights, they said they'd speak with maintenance and never did anything about it nor even had the courtesy to get back to me or leave me a message. I understand smoke alarms are compulsory, yet I've stayed in hundreds of hotels and many hilton hotels, and not all have silly flashing lights in front of your eyes that wake you up and prevent a good night's rest. Change your smoke alarms if you have to! Or don't place it in front of the person's head so it flashes directly in their eyes. I really shouldn't even have to pay if I couldn't get any sleep... terrible!

Friendly arrival, had made a note that it was my fiance's birthday so it would of been nice to walk into something special but didn't. Still a good stay as usual. I noticed that they had taking the £50 accidental damage deposit plus the price of the room upon arrival despite already paying online, so when I went to reception to explain that I was charged again and I had already paid, one of the receptionists rudely interrupted me and bluntly said "no you haven't paid". I told her that I did and she said "well I can't see that on my system so you obviously didn't". When I showed her the confirmation of my booking including receipt on my phone she didn't even apologise. Horrible attitude. Should of got her name and complained to the hotel manager.
