Very good 8.0
Great central location, easy to walk to all the shops and attraction, great bus service which is cheap and easy to access, nice staff too, great location for eating and drinking. A FREE fast breakfast was given in the price on arrival but this is not all the time but basically hot drinks, fruit juice and toast with some form, muffins, french stick etc.... lots of preserve to choose from - you can up grade to continental or further still for full breakfast, this was a kind gesture from the hotel and much appreciated. If I could change any thing it would be to have a fridge in the room - rooms are basic but great location - there is a swimming pool, small but still a fab swim in the mornings, a spa too, the restaurant has good reviews but was closed when we were their due to Christmas, we would have dined there had it been open, we nearly always stay here when we visit Wellington as such a great location - the hotel does sometime have a band which is great to sit in the bar/lounge listening and enjoying the music and cocktails for a treat. The hotel website does have some good deals to offer too. Airport to and from the hotels are around the $30 mark, this does fluctuate, there is a great shuttle service which is easy to use and find at only $9 per person each way, staff are always friendly in this hotel, I would recommend, has nice Moccona coffee in the rooms which was appreciated (rather than the cheap coffee usually available) - just prefer fresh milk hence a fridge needed.

Family catch up.
Old hotel done up. Small room. No fridge in room. Overlooking Cuba Street so at times it was noisy with loud 'happy' people walking past. Central location with easy access to central city. Free breakfast but only light breakfast (muffin and a coffee). We upgraded to full breakfast for an additional $20 or so but I have to say it was pretty basic food for what we paid. The bacon was in bunches of 2 pieces or 3 pieces stuck together and heated through. My wife had cereal with fruit and the plums were off. We have stayed at the Q Hotel and the C Hotel and I would stay at the Q Hotel again if the price was right.

Very friendly and helpful staff; comfortable hotel
Overall I was very happy with the experience. The staff I dealt with both pre-arrival, while I was there, and after I left were very professional, friendly and helpful. I felt it was unclear how to enter the hotel after hours - upon checking in the staff member at the front desk explained I needed the separate card to enter the hotel after 11pm as the doors get locked, but I didn't realise a different entrance had to be used. On my first night, myself and another guest were stuck outside for 5-10 minutes because we were trying to enter by a different door that we thought was correct, but our key cards didn't work. Eventually we had to call the hotel and a staff member came and let us in at the correct entrance. The only issue I had with the room is that the tap in the sink was very stiff and difficult to turn on - it made a mess every time I used it. A mirror in the main room (not just the bathroom) would have been nice since the lighting in the bathroom isn't very good. The curtains on the window aren't long enough to keep the light out - because the positioning of the bed means your head is right under the window so the sunlight is in your face in the mornings.

Good Hotel, but room disappointing
My 10 year old son and I stayed 3 nights in a twin bedded room. It was clean and tidy, but lacked a set of drawers to put clothes in. Our room was situated next to the lift so I could hear the lift going up and down throughout the night. Windows opened but because this is an older Hotel, rattled due to the wind. So had to close them. There was a small desk fan which did not oscillate. It was hot whilst we were there. View from the windows were of the other rooms to the left, right and in front. Needs a fridge also for cold drinks storage. The cafe and bar food was really good, as was the breakfast. We upgraded to a cooked breakfast. Plenty of options and choice. Staff were lovely and friendly. Professional . Loved to be so central in Cuba street. Also having use of the Hotel’s pool. There are 2 Hotels linked side by side and the pool is situated on the fourth floor. Enjoyed the ambiance and refinement of this older Hotel, and would return, but would also ensure we were allocated a nicer room. Perhaps more careful consideration of families could have been given when allocating this room.

Poor 2.0
This is actually two hotels in one and the website as well as my reservation was confusing. It is the "CQ" Hotel, but my confirmation said only "C" hotel. Even the taxi driver was confused. Evidently the "C" part is more of a hostel and the "Q" part is more of a hotel. A distinction that was NOT made on the website. I booked a "king room" and what I got was a "small room with a lumpy queen size bed". The pillows were usable, there was a carpet tile loose at the door to the room that caught on everything and they had used ducktape on the carpet tiles in the hallway to keep them in place. I had booked breakfast and was told I had the "Express Breakfast", juice and toast. Really, nothing more than bread and water essentially. And I had to ask them to fill the coffee pot as the staff hid most of the time. The front desk staff were not friendly, not helpful. One did offer to move me to another room after I had spent a night in the hotel, which would have prevented me from taking my tour as I would have had to change rooms during the tour. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Horrible experience. It was my first time in Wellington and this hotel everything to make me not want to visit the city again.
