Check if construction is still underway next door
The construction site RIGHT next door started work early (6am on Friday and Saturday), so there was no chance of a sleep-in. Then on our last day something happened with the plumbing overnight, and the hot and cold water were switched- that would have been fine, had it not been for the VERY brown water with visible insoluble bits swirling down the drain. We were told it would be fixed in 15-20 minutes when we called reception, and were brought water by a very apologetic guy (he was great). We asked that we be called when it was fixed- fast forward 2 hours and we eventually went down for breakfast, unshowered and now running behind schedule, not having had a call and the water definitely not sorted. We asked after breakfast what was happening with the water and were told that it was fixed. We mentioned that we had to change our plans as a result of the water issue and were told that they would sort something out for us- however after showering and then returning downstairs an hour later to check out, no mention was made of any special concession for us. Just wanting to get on with our day, we didn’t mention anything as we were keen to get out and about. While the construction is going on, you may want to request a room away from the building side. I don’t know if the water was related to the construction, but it’s probably a fair to assume it is- maybe check if it’s underway when booking. Overall it was a great room, the construction and water were just a dampener for us.

A city centre hotel with no in-room wifi:(
Doubletree at Flinders has all the makings of a being lovely hotel -- warm service, well-maintained rooms and in a very accessible location right next to the tram stops and Flinders Station. 3 major drawbacks -- a city centre hotel without free in-room wifi access [there is access at a prohibitive price] is really unacceptable in this digital age, and shows a shortsightedness one does not expect from a Hilton brand. Whether you're travelling on business or leisure in Melbourne, wifi access is a must as this is a city firmly in the digital age, and Doubletree shows it lack of vision by not being up to speed. The pillows are terribly poor quality -- flat, with all the fluffiness gone out of them. Made for a very uncomfortable sleep. Surprising as one would think Hilton would get this fundamental feature right. The area immediately around the hotel is dodgy -- with vagrants, drunks, homeless and the general underbelly of a city you hope not to see. Not much Doubletree can do about this, though, as it's a sacrifice you make for train access. But if you're a single traveller, and have to move about early morning or late at night, be careful. It may not be the best spot to be in.

Terrible
We arrived early and they said we could either leave or bags or pay $30 to checkin because had just got off the plane we opted to pay. When we arrived in the room it was a lot smaller than we would have hoped - not much bigger than a prison cell tbh and our view was of a brick wal. The bathroom only had a shower - was hoping for a bath. In the evening we had moths flying around us, the 4G reception was terrible on the 6th floor so we though we could use the wifi - the cost was horrendous!!! In this day and age wifi should be free for hotel guests especially in an upper market hotel such as this. My partner and I wanted to watch a film after our day out in Melbourne - again a horrendous cost - even the Apple Store doesn't even charge for a single film. In the morning of our second day, both my partner and I woke up with itchy and rashes on our legs - we are still unsure of what it was. On check out we were planning on letting the hotel staff know of our stay when they asked and they did not once ask if we had enjoyed our stay. My partner did turn around and tell them and all they could offer was taking the $30 off early checkin. The cost was not the issue it was the lack of facilities and service for a higher class hotel such as this.

Absolutely amazing stay!
Not only will the location of the double tree blow you away, the staff make the experience one to remember. Being located on flinders street, you have access to the Flinders street station, free CBD trams and a short walking distance from shops and food places. The room was immaculate and high class, loved coming back from a long day to fresh towels and a made bed. The staff... the STAFF! Made this trip x1000 times worth the money for this hotel. From taking your bags before check in to explore to booking buses to airports to giving us spoons for our ice cream tub. These friendly faces were some of the best customer service patrons i have ever experienced. Always willing to help you with questions and queries but also go above and beyond to make your experience high class. Would recommend this hotel to everyone and anyone wanting to go to Melbourne, live it up in the city but also be treated immensely by the staff. You've got a forever guest DoubleTree Flinders!!

Good 6.0
I initially booked an interior room but on arrival decided to upgrade. I paid $30 for each night and our very dark room was 30 Cm from building scaffolding with builders directly ourside out window nailing and singing even on Sunday. Had I known this was the room I was upgrading to I would have not bothered with the additional expense. On check in I asked if breakfast was included and was told it was not ( I should have checked my booking as it did specify that breakfast was included). When we alerted the duty manager to the situation he was very helpful and handled it well - waiving the upgrade fee and offering some complimentary room service. I don’t usually leave reviews but in this case the stay was very disappointing and not worth the $250+ a night that I paid.
