Adequate, barely
We stayed 2 nights here before a cruise. Arrived after a long drive with a full bladder to find no restroom in the lobby, we had to go at Trader Joe's across the street - boo! Friends had to park at the hotel next door = $45 per night.The room, bed, bathroom are fine in terms of size and comfort, like a "fancy hostel" but there is nearly NO HOT WATER - it barely trickles in the faucet and shower (but have all the pressure for cold water you like)! We made it work for one shower, but were pretty annoyed for the price. Best thing about this place is the location close to the Lincoln St pedestrian mall. The pool looked decent but we didn't use it. Would not stay here again, we spent most of our time at the Kimpton next door, lucky our friends had a room there.

Do not recommend!
When you walk in, it looks un-kept. We (party of 8) debated going somewhere else but thought it’d be okay for one night. As we go up the elevator and get off on our floor/s, it was dirty. The carpet had stains and there was a weird odor. Once we entered our room/s, there were dirty marks on the walls and on the bed comforter. They had a vending machine but barely any drinks in there. It was a long night and we couldn’t wait to leave.

Would not recommend for young adults
Travelling with two other 20 year old women. Felt very unsafe in the hotel as there was no security at the front door or elevator and no staff at the reception desk. Waited in the lobby for 15 minutes after entering for a staff member to come to the desk and check us in. Ended up checking out early and staying at a different hotel since we did not feel safe about staying the night here.

The room was not what I expected. The beds were in bunk style which was difficult to climb onto. There was no space for toiletries in the bathroom, not even a soap dish. No one came to empty out trash or replenish towels. We lost power in the middle of the night and had no air condition for several hours in Miami with a temperature of 70 at night. I ended up checking out early.

The Variety is a perfect option for those travelling on a budget. The room was clean and quite large for the price. There was a small 'bar' fridge in the room to store food in, as well as a Keurig machine in the lobby. There's also a Trader Joe's across the street to buy food at. The hotel was about a 20 minute walk from the beach.

Pleased for the price
Needed a place to stay while waiting for a cruise. Convenient location, nice pool, restaurant was being renovated but there was a microwave in the lobby, a fridge in the room and a Trader Joe’s across the street. Restaurants were a few blocks away. We declined maid service during our stay. Very reasonably priced accommodations in a very expensive location.
