Three Words-Don't Stay Here!
My husband and I love to support independently owned properties and "out of the way" spots, so we booked the St. Maurice for our last night in FLA after returning from Key West. With the exception of a truly friendly and professional from desk Mgr Courtney, EVERYTHING else about his property was tired, old and dirty! From the foreign hairs in the sink and shower (which we decided NOT to even use) to the broken floor tiles, and sandy and dirty floors this motel is anything but cute and quaint. There wasn't even a bedside table or lamp in the bedroom and the bed was pushed clear against the wall to make it fit in the room. Cozy is one thing, but having to climb over your partner just to get some sleep is ridiculous! There is also NO parking but they'll gladly charge you 20.00 to park 2 blocks away in a parking garage which may or may not have any spaces available. Good luck with that! Oh, the smell of stale cigarettes and burns on the bathroom sink are a nice touch! This place is not worth any amount of money! Going to Hollywood FLA? Stay far far away from this spot!

Paradise with hidden costs!!!
Overall our experience at the hotel was good. The staff were helpful, extremely nice and attentive to our needs. However when we 1st arrive we weren't (along with a few other guests) weren't given the wi-fi password, nor were we told of the use of beach chairs & umbrellas, they also have bikes available as well. The other disappointment was the lack of explanation on stating that the facility has Parking, it failed to reveal that they offer a parking pass (which you have to pay for, however if you like St. Maurice Inn's fb page you'll save $4 off a $20 a day parking) but parking near the hotel is extremely limited & you have to opt parking in the 6 story parking garage which has a tendency to be full at certain times of the day & you have to move your vehicle from any parking spot every 24 hrs as not to get a ticket or have your car booted! If you plan a trip to Hollywood, Florida & are flying in do yourselves a favor & use Uber or call a taxi (because you will save an abundance of $$$) Also if you decide to get a Rental vehicle stay away from Economy Rental near the airport… they offer you 1 price online then when you pick up the vehicle they inform you that if your going to be driving around Florida to get the Sunpass $75.00 , they try and get you to purchase their insurance, plus reserve on your credit card your deductibles (not one but both comp/coll & if you have higher deductibles it adds up)… We liked the location just not the hidden fee's.

The hotel lived up to its reviews. Although it had what I like to call its “glorious imperfections” (some termites, no tub, a bit rundown exteriors, funny AC, no closet, doors that have to be pulled to hard, no daily room service), it had a little fridge, microwave, was clean, decorative towels, a nice bed. There was a broom and dustpan for the sand we tracked in. There was a courtyard that gave it a motel or townhouse kind of feel, complete with wooden rocking swing, barbeque (with gas), outdoor chairs and tables (where I lounged, reading 4 books). But its main two charms are: it’s 50 paces from the beach and the centre of the entire boardwalk; and the staff have an attitude of flexibility in their efforts to please. For instance, where a beach umbrella and chairs cost $38/day next door, they’re offered free at the St. Maurice, as are bikes. You can easily get beach towels, water, coffee, and great help (e.g. Joanne set us up with a limousine service for return transportation to the airport at taxi cost). The staff are crowd of characters that enhance the experience, such as the cleaning ladies that speak Portuguese, Spanish, Yugoslavian and no English but somehow make you feel at home; there’s Marco “Polo”, the semi-retired groundskeeper who’s generous and funny; there’s Courtney, who actually carried our token “Hi Mom” postcard downtown.

Good location, small room
It's a dated hotel but the check in process was very easy, woman I dealt with was super friendly & helpful. As other reviews said, it really is a stone throw's walk to the broad walk. It's not directly on the broadwalk, it is one street back (so don't expect any type of view other than other buildings or the street) but it's a very easy and quick walk to get to the broadwalk/beach. We had one of the larger rooms which was still incredibly small. There were 4 of us and I'm glad we were only staying one night as it was pretty snug. The bedroom was small but the bed was comfy & clean (the other couple slept on the pull out sofa which they said was very uncomfortable - guess that's to be expected). The bathroom was crazy small as was the kitchenette. I think, for us, it just wasn't worth the extra money to stay closer to the beach since we were just passing through, arrived later & left early the next morning. My initial thought process was "we'll get there at a decent time, be able to park the car and then just relax". We ended up running behind & it didn't work like that SO... I say all of that to just to say.... I really think I wasn't impressed simply because we didn't utilize the beach, we were there for such a short time, the room was small & the whole area was crazy crowded when we arrived. If you're looking to actually stay and enjoy the beach, this might be just what you are looking for. Plus, we're used to the ease of an actual hotel parking lot.

Nice stay
Arrived late and only stayed for one night, but was able to check out much of the area. Front desk person was very friendly and helpful, and check-in was fast. Rooms and bathrooms are small and older but very clean. Room was nearly complete with fridge, microwave and coffee maker. The only usual item missing and needed was a hair dryer. I noticed on the paperwork the next morning that you have to ask the front desk for one. However, the front desk didn't open until 9:00 AM and I had to leave for the airport at 8:15. Other than that, no complaints with this stay. The hotel is in a great location, just one building between it and the boardwalk/beach. It's also very close walking distance to lots of restaurants and bars. It's also right next door to the Margaritaville Resort which is billed as ocean front. However, the St. Maurice is much much closer to the beach as you just walk out your door, then around the corner and you're there. No having to wait on elevators, then walk forever thru resort shops, restaurants and pool areas to get there. Overall it's a fantastic value compared to what other nearby hotels were charging.
