Cardiff
So close to Mermaid Quay which would be a very trendy area in summer. Room was good with great view of Cardiff Bay. Thought that 20pound per night was over the top for parking as not under cover.

good apart from check in PITA
The hotel is really nice as always. When we arrived they lost my booking for 4/5 rooms and it took a good hour to get us checked in, then they said our second night may not be ok as they have no availability. That Was quite a stress going to bed on the first night thinking were moving rooms or hotel on night 2. Hotels.com had payment and said I was confirmed but this wasn’t what the hotel was agreeing to. The rooms are awesome as is the food and the view. Beware to check with the hotel they actually have your booking, also beware that when you book taxis through the hotel they’re usually late (the hotel paid for two of them due to them sending cars too small) £20 a night for parking with 4 cars is always a bit of a grr moment when the hotel is right next to so much parking, this should really be 1 car free per room in my view.

Great Stay, but NOT air conditioned as advertised
Went to a show at the Cardiff Millenium Centre. About a 10 minute walk away along the bay. Breakfast was included with our room but was disappointing. Also the advertised air conditioning in rooms is not air conditioning at all, I was told this by an engineer who was sent to fix a fault after we arrived.

Disappointing
My wife and I visited for our anniversary with high hopes given the price and reputation. Arrival was great - the staff member on reception upgraded us to a larger room on hearing that we were celebrating, which was a nice touch. Unfortunately, after a good start, the rest of the experience was disappointing. We ate at the restaurant and my wife's curry dish was very bland, with an obvious taste of just curry powder and not much else. My main was decent but not imaginative despite the menu looking really exciting. The main issue was that our room was boiling hot despite setting the air con to as cold as possible. I spent 15 minutes calling reception but no-one even picked up the phone to help! We didn't get much sleep at all and had to have our balcony door open all night. On checking out we explained to the staff member what happened, but got no apology and simply asked if we would like a follow-up phone call from their manager, with no chance of resolution before leaving the hotel. This is meant to be an exceptional hotel, but we saw no evidence for that aside from a nice room in a good location. Service standards should be much higher for a place aiming at 5 stars!
