Not worth five stars
The hotel is well situated a 5 min walk from the El Poblado trendy area. Giving the property 5 stars is stretching it as it is well past its glory days. Rooms seemed refurbished with funky features such as electric blinds and odd choices like no electric plugs by the bed (instead the only option was far away near the TV). Our first room had a broken window so we changed to a much smaller one that had no heating (it is hot in Medellin but we happened to be there during a stormy period where it was cold at night).
While the bed was huge and comfy the room lacked everything other than the bare minimum. No amenities were provided other than soap and shampoo and body lotion (and they charged for toothbrushes or shaving kits) and there is no kettle, coffee machine, slippers, bathrobe, pen and paper to take notes, etc. They did make sure to leave a fully stocked minibar and drawer with essentials such as a half open box of condoms. During breakfast an army of waiters made sure your cup was always filled with strong Colombian coffee, tea or chocolate. But don’t expect much choice or daily change in the options and some of the local specialties felt a little stale and worse quality than what I tried at much smaller places. It is not a bad hotel and the team there tries it’s best but it just doesn’t feel luxurious or special at all.
