The property was centrally located for my purpose, that was why I selected it. My complaint 1 Upon entering the room it smelled musty. 2 There were insufficient supply of coffee n milk. 3 No teaspoon. 4 No running hot water in sink, shower or bathtub. 5 Safe not repaired or operational. 6. Fallen repair plaster were evident along the passage way. We complained and yes our rooms were changed. In the second room the shower were still inoperable but managed to get the bath going. The safe was still inoperable. After travelling 18hrs it was not very pleasant to be faced with this situation. You would have expected the rooms were made ready if you were expecting guests. Chamber maids should have the responsibility to organise all of the complaints above. Guest should have been advised that the hotel was going through some renovations prior to arrival or when booking. The staff on duty that evening were cooperative but inexperienced. The receptionist in the morning seemed more aware of the situation but very defensive. I demand some compensation, at least, or a full refund. convenient location. run down and tired.
reception area was deceptively and unnecessarily opulent. breakfast room was ok, but the girl had no idea how to make porridge. the cereal was stale and we were given a jug of milk which was warm and we think frothed up for coffee. we had ordered tea. fire exit was partially blocked by a folding bed sitting in the corridor. in the bedroom, the curtain was coming off its rail, the TV didn't work, there were no batteries in the safe so as to be able to set a number, although a key was provided instead. a chest of drawers was in very poor condition, top paintwork very badly worn. the bathroom floor tiles were badly broken and cracked, enough to risk foot injury, the cold tap came out hot for so long i wondered if we had two hot taps, the duvets were skimpy but fortunately the room was warm without the need for the heating to be turned on, a window pane had been replaced and no one had bothered to take off the supplier's sticker. the room itself was too small to be a double, never mind a twin, and it was difficult to get round what felt like a warehouse of junk and contiboard. there was nowhere to put a couple of sponge bags down in the bathroom, which was quite big enough for some decent shelving to have been put up. quality was cheap - but at 3 1/2 times the cost of a barely adequate place in Reading it was definitely very poor value.

Small, dingy, smelly
The hotel was genuinely one of the worst I've stayed in. The front of the hotel was covered in scaffolding, making it difficult to locate, and the check in was bad. We were told that we had no breakfast booked, and would have to pay £10 per person. I was sure that our room included breakfast, but didn't kick up a fuss as I hadn't double checked the room booking confirmation. Having confirmed that this was the case, I asked the receptionist to double check, as hotels.com have confirmed that it was included. They suggested I waited for the manager. No breakfast was offered the next day, and we were resigned to having to eat elsewhere. Moving on to the room. Well, it was the smallest box I have stayed it. Horrible smell. Mould and stains all over the carpets. The worst stay in a hotel I have experienced. Please avoid!

Stay elsewhere - Tophams is VERY disappointing
This hotel is in dire need of fixing up. We arrived early (around 11 a.m.), hoping the room would be ready but expecting at the least to leave our luggage for the day. When we walked in, we weren't greeted but instead stood in the entryway for several minutes while staff argued with each other and berated a woman who appeared to be a guest. It was uncomfortable and awkward, to say the least. After a couple of minutes, the woman behind the table finally noticed us and said, 'checking in or checking out?' clearly not noticing we had JUST walked in the door, and despite the fact the entryway is very tiny. Our room wasn't ready, so we left our luggage for the day. When we arrived in the evening to check in, we were told we had "the nicest room" but when we got up to our room, we were shocked at how dingy and run down the room was. It was large and two stories, but the carpet was stained throughout, the paint was scraped off of the walls, and the headboards were shredded. The bathroom faucet only ran very hot water and the shower door didn't fully close, which led to water all over the floor. The only chair in the room had gross stains on it and the refrigerator was broken. We had yogurt that we intended to refrigerate, so I brought it downstairs for them them to refrigerate. I came back downstairs an hour later to get a hairdryer, which they had to fetch from another room, and the yogurt was still on the desk. Please learn from our mistake: stay elsewhere in London.

Staff was very friendly and helpful however the room condition was tragic. Peeling wallpaper, chipped, cracked furniture, stains on the carpet. There was a large water stain on the carpet beside the bed which we later found out was due to the water leaking THROUGH the wall when the shower was used. We informed management and they stated they were unaware and would investigate. The property is currently under major renovations and the manager did say that the room we were in hadn’t been done yet. If they continue fixing the rooms up to the standard of the lobby, it will be a lovely place but unfortunately at the moment it is not.
