    Exceptional 10.0
Convenient, central, enjoyable, and good staff
The hotel itself is located near to a lot of things, Rundle Mall and the Casino are a few minutes walk away, the Adelaide Oval is an easy stroll and the markets are close by too. The staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. They are a real asset to the hotel, nothing was too much trouble, and in the restaurant it felt like we had our own personal waiter. Room rate - more than reasonable. The discounted cocktails at the bar were great, and the dinner specials were remarkably good value. We’re still trying to work out how you did a surf & turf tower for two for $50! And free, good speed WiFi. More hotels should do this. It can get a little noisy on the street outside, even several floors up, that noise could reach us but it didn’t disturb my sleep. A couple of minor things, that knock the Grand Chancellor down to an 8 for me: - Our room was a corner room, with a north-west facing corner window. It wasn’t a hot day when we arrived but that afternoon sin quickly turned it into an oven and the AC took a long time (several hours) on full to cool it down. I’d strongly suggest asking for a room that faces at least east or south before taking one of these on again. - The carpet, painting, and general decor are getting a little dated - The gym, while basic, and suitable to me for a basic cardio workout, might not satisfy people looking for a serious fitness regime. Would I stay here again? Yes, I reckon I would.

    Feeling the Cool City Vibe!
Well, where do I start! This was the first time my husband and I had been to Adelaide and the recent Adele concert was all the encouragement we needed to travel over. I found a great deal on the Hotel and booked. THEN I read the reviews and there were a few which got me a little worried. There were a few grumbles about the hotel being dated which was fine by me as I wasn't paying the price I would expect to pay for a new modern hotel, the ones that concerned me were all around the locality, that it was seedy and dodgy......... so wrong......the location was awesome......we were able to easily walk everywhere! One block to the Casino, one more block to the oval and Fringe venues, go the other way, 2 blocks to Rundle Mall and some amazing shopping, as well as the free trams to go to Central Markets etc. While wandering around the first day (feeling safe as houses) we found great little side lanes, Peel & Leigh Street packed with with cool bars and restaurants to explore. Yes I agree, there are many characters in the street and no you are not in a posh area with lots of boutiques and pretty shop fronts but we found it to be vibrant, cool and ohhh so convenient for everything.

Excellent service, very clean. Needs an update.
We stayed for 3 nights as part of a 2 week holiday in Australia from the US. While booking somehow the Suite room was cheaper than other options. I had requested for a high rise room. Since the suite rooms are all in lower floors, they had alloted a nice looking renovated room in the 3rd floor. Unfortunately it was right opposite to the elevator (who has a room right there???) and there were some pipelines right next to the room (I think). We checked in late after a tiring day in Melbourne and a late evening flight. So, we went straight to bed. But we were soon woken up by the sound of flowing water that kept going throughout the night. We checked the bathroom twice to see if there was a leak. In the morning we requested for a change of room and they heeded the request right away (very happily I should say) which was great. But the second room was straight out of the 1990s (radio by the bed and so on). It was super clean though. So no complaints (to be fair, they told us it's an old room before switching us). It was a neat stay all over. They were very courteous to help us weigh our luggage (multiple times) for our next flight. The area was very convenient and close to restaurants, markets and tram/bus stations. But there were quite a few creepy people around who were drunk and behaving kinda nutty. Scared my wife a bit. If you have kids, may not be the best place to stay. For us, the service topped it all.

    Good 6.0
On arrival all good the room was nice. On Saturday in 42dg's waiting to enter underground car park 4 cars lined up. We are the first car press the button to allow staff to speak and allow entree. (YOUR SIGN ASKS US TO BE PATIENT NOT KEEP PRESSING INTERCOM) as requested we wait 5 mins in the heat then press again still NO RESPONSE. Presuming staff are busy, I patiently get out of the car go to reception where NO ONE IS WAITING! 2 staff member there explain that 4 cars are lined up and no one is answering the intercom? I'm told the car park is full. So why can't you answer the intercom and let people know? It's hot out there even with air-conditioning 15 minutes this process took with no apology from staff. Told to go into other car park with boom gate and will get charged the same $18 per day rate. NO cost $31-. I went back to reception and again suggested staff answer the intercom and tell people whats happening (NOW there are 3 staff members 1 answers she didn't hear the intercom. WELL THAT JUST INFURIATED ME AS IT WAS A POOR EXCUSE! AGAIN NOT ONE APOLOGY AND THE LIFTS DIDN'T WORK IN THIS DIRTY ISOLATED CAR PARK. Checking out the next day the staff member I addressed my concerns to tried to avoid serving us very unprofessional as at no time was I rude to her. Bar staff were pleasant and professional. After many years in customer service this angered me as your staff didn't even try to apologize. Only a small criticism but spoilt a good day.

    Location, location!
Fantastic stay at the Grand Chancellor on Hindley! Could not beat the location - one block away from the start of Rundle Mall and lots of shops, bars, clubs pubs in short walking distance from the hotel. What we loved the most about this hotel was that despite its proximity to the CBD and Rundle Mall, we had a hotel room on the 5th floor away from the elevators and facing towards Currie Street - it was super quiet and super comfortable! Great blackout curtains kept the sun at bay so we could have a lovely lie in, and the ducted A/C and heating kept things at a nice temp throughtout our stay. Staff were super quick and helpful at check-in, and the whole process was so easy. Grand lobby featuring a lot of charm, nice bar and sitting area on the ground floor. The hotel also has conference facilities, and one day during our stay it was a tad busy...but nothing to complain about - all very orderly. All in all, our room and bathroom may have been a little dated, but the location and comfort of the room could not be beaten. Fantastic staff, quiet and central location, awesome facilities. Will be back again next visit to Adelaide!
