Quiet Elegance on Waikiki Beach
Halekulani offers "the best of both worlds." The property itself is a quiet peaceful enclave where the sound of waves crashing on the beach lull you to sleep at night, and the smell of plumeria subtly fills the air of the beautifully-manicured gardens. There are no water slides and sunscreen-slathered tiki bars here - Halekulani is a fantastic escape from the grind of everyday life. Yet, step outside the front doors and the best Waikiki shopping and entertainment is right out front, as the Royal Hawaiian Center winds its way along Lewers Street and Kalakaula Avenue. The food and entertainment options on the property are fantastic. Their terrace restaurant and bar, House Without a Key is probably among the best places on earth (and certainly on Waikiki) to enjoy sundowners, while wonderfully-talented performers sing the best Hawaiian music and perform traditional hula. The late-night lounge, Lewers, has fantastic performers in an equally-fantastic setting. The fine-dining restaurant, La Mer is just stunningly beautiful for it's nostalgic Hawaiian feel and location overlooking the Pacific (and has a great bar, if you aren't willing to commit to the full menu), and their main restaurant, Orchids has great food and fantastic thoughtful staff. Speaking of the staff - everyone at Halekulani is incredible. They go to lengths to remember your names and preferences, and go out of their way - proactively - to try to make your stay as relaxing and delightful as possible.

Exceptional 10.0
Best hotel in Waikiki
We spent our honeymoon at the Halekulani and it was just fabulous. I've stayed at several other hotels in Waikiki and this by far was the best. The location is fantastic - right in the heart of the shopping strip but also right on the beach. It's more exclusive, slightly private and quieter than even its closest neighbouring hotels, such as the Outrigger and Sheraton, which have a very busy Club-Med vibe. Although all Hawaiian hotels seem to be child friendly, I was pleasantly surprised not to see children running wild around the grounds. The hotel staff went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. We received sweet little gifts from the hotel each day too. We were greeted with champagne and a fruit platter to welcome us on our honeymoon and when we had a slight glitch with the car we hired through the hotel, they refunded us $100 and sent us wine and a generous cheese platter. The rooms are some of the most modern you'll find in Waikiki. Decent size and always immaculately cleaned. The breakfast buffet was amazing. So much variety and it wasn't always the same each morning. The only fault would be that this hotel is very pricey. I was happy to splurge on our accommodation since it was our honeymoon, but otherwise it's very expensive. I suppose you get what you pay for though! I'd absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone.

Very good 8.0
A great resort and a nice hotel
I stayed at Halekulani and four other hotels during my trip to Hawaii. The other four were: Luana, Outrigger Reef, Ritz-Carlton, and Aston Waikiki Beach Tower. Halekulani ranks near the top, and it's a very nice hotel, but it's just not the right one for me. Halekulani is a 5-star hotel, and by reputation one of the best in Honolulu. It's a great resort and a premier event space, but I found the rooms to be underwhelming. I spent most of my time exploring Honolulu, and was too busy to partake in hotel amenities and activities; therefore, my review is focuses mainly on the room. Those who make Halekulani a destination in and of itself will likely have a better experience. I have mixed feelings about the room. There were a few features not found anywhere else, though it was lacking in several small ways. Overall, Halekulani is a marvelous choice for those who wish to spend time at a resort and who are a stylistically compatible, but it may not be for everyone.

Poor 2.0
I actually cannot believe the positive reviews. I checked in today. It's my honeymoon and the last stop before I go home. Grossly dated room with serious need of renovations: scuffed walls, dated and scratched/worn furniture, crack in ceiling. Honestly looks like a holiday-inn" type room. In addition to a terrible room, the staff (with the exception of the maid service) isn't friendly at all. We've been asked at every hotel what we are here for- with the "honeymoon" response, at at the very least, we've gotten a complimentary glass of champagne. At the Four Seasons (our first night in Oahu) we got upgraded rooms and a bottle of champagne. This hotel did nothing for us. The entire experience is so disappointing. I'm not looking for free stuff but I'm def looking for "luxury" at 600/night. On top of that the AC barely worked. My husband and I were sweating and slept awful in the Cheap queen bed. I'm SO sad I didn't go back to the Four Seasons. Don't let these reviews fool you- take a look at my room below. I would Never recommend anyone stay here.

5-Star Hotel in Wild Waikiki
The hotel and its employees were phenomenal. From the room service to parking attendants, every one at the hotel exhibited a gracious aloha that you will not find anywhere else (just stayed at the Waikiki Sheraton). In addition, from the fruit platter to start the stay to the breakfast on the veranda, every aspect of the stay while on the hotel grounds was impeccable. As a resident of O'ahu, my wife and I were looking for a quiet oasis away from the hustle of Waikiki. Unfortunately, once off property and at times from our room, we could sense the hectic hustle of the surrounding area. From sirens to honks to being cut off a number of times while driving to and from the hotel, the calm and serene feel of the hotel was paired with the unsettled discomfort of Waikiki.
