Superb Hotel in an excellent location!!
My wife and I stayed at the Mandarin for the second time. The first was 7 years ago when we first married and chose it for our honeymoon night. That experience was everything one wishes to have in a night as special as that. Now 7 year slater, I decided to surprise her with a one-night stay for her birthday. I rented a deluxe room with a veranda view of the City of Miami and Biscayne Bay. As expected, everything in the room was top quality, from the bedding to the bathroom, to the sunken tub to the balcony, shower, television, room service, elevator security, cleanliness, desk, internet, etc etc. I cannot think of single item of any size or quality that was not 5 star. Downstairs, the bar was fun to drink in. It offered foods dishes of various types, all excellent, at least those were ordered, and a truly professional staff that knew how to make a good drink, right down to a quality martini, shaken not stirred. Of course, everything was expensive, but that is no surprise in Miami 5 star Hotels. I bought my wife a 1 1/2 hour massage that she pronounced amazing!! According to her, and I quote, "the spa is to die for..."! Dinner on the patio of the Azul Restaurant was fabulous with a great view of the waterfront and excellent service and food. In short, I could find nothing I did not like in this hotel visit. I am very happy to have chosen the Mandarin Oriental as the hotel for this stay.

Peaceful hotel on Brickell Key
This is the second time that my boyfriend and I have been to Miami, and the first time we stayed at the Mandarin Oriental and loved it. When we were looking for hotels for the second time around, we made sure that we booked the Mandarin Oriental again - overall, it's a great place to stay. The lobby, bar, and pool area are all fantastic (with my one complaint being the price of food - it was $12 for four small vegetable dumplings and $9 for a bottle of Corona...and $8 for a Bud Light. I realize it's a luxury hotel, but come on, really?). The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, and you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. We did notice, however, that the quality of room decreases a bit the lower your floor is - we booked a deluxe bay view room and were upgraded to a deluxe veranda room on the 6th floor. The veranda was dirty, though, with chewed gum and cigarette butts on the ground and even cigarette holes burned in the lounge chairs. Because our room was over some common areas, too, we could hear a wedding celebration late at night through the super thin ceiling. We had previously stayed in a superior island view room on a higher floor, which was much quieter and had a much cleaner balcony. I guess this is kind of a nitpick, but I'd recommend trying to book accommodations on a higher floor for a more peaceful experience. Aside from this, though, we had a great time and would definitely return!

Poor 2.0
A huge disappointment; hardly 5 star
This hotel is simply not up to snuff. It is far from a 5 star standard or the standard set by the other Mandarin Oriental properties I've visited. Disappointments and irritations are too numerous to list; no one thing is really a deal breaker but the overall experience is extremely sloppy and shopworn. Here are just a few examples. The property is dated; I understand it hasn't had a major renovation in 16 years -- and it shows (the room design was an attractive modern design -- in the 1990s!). Maintenance is subpar: In our room, we had a non-working coffee maker, burned out light bulbs, and broken TV. Cleanliness is subpar: cleaning is perennially behind in the pool & beach areas, etc. There was cigarette ash on my balcony that wasn't cleaned up. My first room didn't have a coffee maker at all, and only 2 towels for two people. Being charged $15/day for Internet when you are already paying a very high price is just adding insult to injury. All of this is hardly five star. Service is fair at best: waitstaff in pool area were surly; whatever newspaper you requested you are getting the Miami Herald; concierges are friendly but haven't been to the latest restaurants and gave poor directions. I am sure at this price point it would be easy to get a better experience in Miami.

Housekeeping need to improve.
I have been in this hotel many time but in this occasion I fineshed very upset with the hotel housekeeping service in two consecutive days I left the room al around 11 am, leaving the green light on for cleaning, when we returned in the evening at 7.00 pm the room was not cleaned. We complain to the manager on duty and he apologiesed for the situation, for me something unacceptable in a 5 star hotel. Another situation that annoying me, was in the restaurant in one of the night with a very chilly wind the waiters each time they opened the doors to the terrace a vey cold draft, I requested if were possible to move another table, was some emptied tables, that were reserved but people did not turn up yet , but the manager of the restaurant did not accept my request, we left the table and went to another restaurant.

Dissapointed guest....
I have been a guest at this and other Mandarin Oriental locations for several years. Recently I booked my trip and submitted my checkout incorrectly, one day before... When I checked in the girl at the front desk told me that she could not modify my checkout because I did it thru Expedia. Then she gave me the front desk´s rate and told me to get back to her 24 hours in advance. When I did, the hotel was completely booked and we had to move out on our last night in Miami! Given the category of the hotel, and considering that I´ve stayed in the property several times in the past years, I think they cannot dissapoint a customer like this. This is extremely inconvenient for the guest. It is the first time that they have asked me to move out from a hotel!
