A must-do but set your expectations lower
5 star resort, 5 star facilities, 5 star service, 2 star room. The castle is absolutely beautiful with a lot of options for food; the gym is fully equipped; the downtown area is not too far from the hotel either. The room is just really old and needing a major renovation. The curtain in our room had some snort or blood stains on them and the tap in our bathroom leaked as well; we were told someone had come to fix it but the problem persisted and it was really annoying when you're trying to sleep. The walls are paper thin as well so the whole time we stayed there, we heard children playing in the corridor yelling out to each other in the morning. We understand it is an old building however the price this hotel commands could go towards some TLC for the rooms. Banff and the national parks gave us some of the most amazing experiences and I wish I had loved the hotel as some others have however the room was really disappointing.

Disappointing rooms but views spectacular
So looking forward to this stay. Our room was over $550 per night. Sadly: 1. Arrive at 3pm checking not until 4. Yep know that but told room will be ready in 30min. It's not so we wait until after 4 and room still not ready. I was told room is guaranteed to be ready st 4. Waited another 20min. 2. Paying for car park if $25 per day. Car park is miles away so don't forget anything in the car. For the price of the room this should be included. 3. Breakfast not included. Again for this price it should be. 4. Room not serviced until after 3pm - could have been later but I put the do not disturb on the door as I was sick of waiting. 5. Dirty room service trays not collected. One was there from breakfast and still there at dinner. 6. We had a room that was miles away from main hotel areas. It was a 15min walk through rabbit warrens and up stairs, down lifts and highly confusing. Signage terrible. Again, too far away to go back for a jumper if it got cold. 7. Room was tiny. So narrow you couldn't fit a king sided bed, hence a queen sized bed was in the room. So nowhere else to sit apart from at a desk. Small window although view was great. One person at a time. Ok so the good things were: 1. Grounds and gardens beautiful. Thumbs up to the groundsmen and women. 2. Hotel staff very professional and can't do enough for you. 3. Views spectacular. 4. Restaurants and bars great. Cafe was great for lighter and cheaper meals. 5. Historical tours were a bonus.

The registration lady had no smile on her face when I checked in. Check-out waiting time was too long. Otherwise, it was great.
