A Five Star Stay in A Four Star Hotel
When we first arrived we were directed to a room on the 1st floor. In my original request many months previous I asked for a high floor with a king size bed. We were her celebrating her 5th year free of cancer and her birthday. Apparently the hotel was completely sold out. The gallery studio room was nice with two bathrooms which is always nice when you are rushing for reservations for dinner and site seeing tours. The hotel manager Danielle immediately stepped in and understood our situation and promised to move us the next three nights of our trip to a very special room. Wow, when we saw the Penthouse Suite we were floored. Two stories with the most beautiful rooftop deck with loungers and couches. You could see all of Florence. This was heaven. The breakfast was very good for your morning start. Room was prepared each and every night and cleaned each morning. To top this all off upon the eve of our departure when we returned we found two gifts waiting for us in the room. For my wife there was a bottle of Ferragamo perfume with a lovely card wishing her happy birthday and for a me a book I admired in the room that I was willing to purchase. That was icing on the cake. Danielle made our trip to Florence so memorable. We have been to Florence at least seven times but this was the best. This was five star service in a four star hotel.

Very good 8.0
Fancy pants hotel with a great location.
Gallery Hotel Art is an incredibly beautiful hotel that is well equipped in terms of their rooms and services. It was very flash and having accessed a great early bird deal it was definitely something special. It is very much a 5 star property located in a great location right near the Ponte Vecchio so it really couldn't get much better. The beds were comfortable, a bath in the room and added facilities such as a bose speaker to sync your music too was all great. However for me personally it lacked a bit of Italian soul and felt very much like any 5 star hotel with high prices in any city. I stayed in two properties on this Florence stay and the alternative one had a more personal feel to it and didn't feel like I was just another wealthy tourist coming through (which I wasn't hence the early bird price). For one night there I managed to spend an additional 57 Euros on 2 glasses of wine, an espresso and a half bottle of Chianti which I guess made it feel like any hotel with their charging model. The reception staff also didn't value add or offer information unless requested. But with all that said if you are looking for a super flash hotel in a fabulous location (and you can get a great early bird price) this is definitely a hotel to choose. I enjoyed my stay and other than it not being for me I give it a 4/5

Good 6.0
The location was central for things we wanted to see and do. However, our room overlooked the front of the hotel and it was terribly noisy. We didn't get a single good night's sleep. The room also was uncomfortably hot and stuffy. There was no ventilation other than opening the windows, and being two women we did not feel comfortable sleeping with the balcony open. So it was hot - even in March. Hotel staff was not responsive to the heat issue. The bathroom has no ventilation. The lighting in the bathroom was inadequate. There was no space for toiletries for two women in the bathroom - limited counterspace. The room itself was tiny and some of the furnishings need to be replaced due to wear and tear and largess. The things we liked about the room were: comfortable bed, nice turndown service, wonderful shower pressure, fluffy robes and towels and quality toiletries. The hotel breakfast was lovely and the staff who waited on us were friendly and attentive. The front desk was unfriendly and unwelcoming. They made no effort to say hello when we came and went daily. It is a pretty hotel, but other than the breakfast inclusion in our rate, it was not a good value. I would try another hotel on my next trip to Florence.

Modern hotel in exlnt location by Ponte Vecchio.
Staff were the highlight of this hotel. Incredibly helpful and friendly. Hotel is modern looking with nice art pieces by Andy Warhol. Close to all major sights in Florence although driving to the hotel is a challenge. Had to return the rental car and rely on taxis and just walking to all nearby sights. Air Conditioning is a problem in this hotel. The AC in my room was totally not functioning and the outside temperature was in the mid 80s. In the room it was close to 80 and quite unbearable. After several complaints and attempts by technicians to fix the AC with no results, and after two nights in that heat I threatened of leaving the hotel. I was moved to a room across the hallway with a working AC and although for the same price I was told, had nicer amenities and shower robes that the first room did not have. I suspect Expedia clients may get the short end of the stick on similar rooms. The AC in the second room worked too well and it was impossible to turn it OFF!!! Despite increasing the temperature to the maximum allowed of 24C and also trying to turn off the AC, it would stop for a few minutes and restart in full force with the room now way too cold. The AC technicians at this hotel need some serious improvement. Otherwise the hotel is lovely.

Great 4 star hotel.
Fantastic hotel. Rooms reasonably sized. Beds super comfy. Staff were great - very friendly, English speaking and helpful. Location is as good as it can get in Florence for all the sights. Didn't try the restaurant as it didn't seem appropriate to eat Japanese food in an Italian city! Drinks from the bar a tad expensive but there are so many other bars and restaurants within less than 5 minutes walk so it wasn't a problem. The hotel had a large drop down screen for watching TV in the library and the staff were very happy to set this up to let us watch a World Cup football game. Apparently guests are able to make use of the rooftop bar in the Continental hotel just across the narrow street although we didn't make use of it. All in all we were delighted with our stay. Would definitely go back here were we to visit Florence again.
