The room was great once I got there. This hotel is displayed as Sunrise Hotel Jumgmun on NAVER or Google as Sota only handles some of the rooms. Itโ€™s a completely virtual check-in process with no advance communication. Luckily the concierge at Sunrise Hotel was there and was able to call them for me and talk in Korean to get me checked in. I did show up about 30 minutes ahead of checkin time at 2:30pm which may have contributed to my issues, but I spent about an hour wandering the city trying to find this hotel.

Please note that after arriving at the hotel, there is the inconvenience of having to receive a mobile key and enter the room without the help of book-in service, and if you bring your own car, there is the inconvenience of having to park a long distance away, and you cannot contact the hotel if you do not have a cell phone that can make calls. It is a place where you can be satisfied with the sea view and room condition for the price.

I have stayed at this property World State Residence quite a lot over the past 4 years. At least 3-4 times a year. I really like the property and it was always clean, well kept and well managed. The past 3 times I have stayed I have had problems. First is paying for a room under world state mahagement and being given a room under sunrise hotel management. I understand rooms are similar but the furniture, layout and price or the rooms are different. This trip the room I was given 1713 had tiles falling off the wall in the shower. I didn't notice until. Late in the night so didn't contact the management but the standards here have gotten much worse and it is a real shame as a regular customer to be given continuous bad treatment and having bad experiences while staying there.

Confusing hotel name

I found it hard to understand the check in process online as it was all in Korean and I only read English. Plus it was strange to book with one hotel name but find the room was actually in a building with a different hotel name.

Not a good check-in experience when being 10000km away from home. This is no in-person check-in on site, which could be fine if the communication from the hotel was adequate in the first place. When I booked, I received a Korean-only message telling me that at 3pm on my day of arrival, I would be getting a new communication with the necessary steps to self check-in. I never received it, I tried texting back the hotel in my chat with them, but nothing came back. Arriving the hotel address, there are no mention of World State anywhere, only Sunrise Hotel is written on the building. Getting to the counter, the sunriseโ€™s employee told me that I was at the right place, but that they couldnโ€™t do anything. Looks like both hotel share the same building. So I called the hotel, and was greeted with an employee that had trouble with Englishโ€ฆ but still he managed to gave me my room number, and my doorโ€™s passwordโ€ฆ which was kind of a simple one for a kid to test it out. I never got texted back be the hotel staff to make sure everything was fine. The room was fine, the bedโ€™s sheets had some stains on it, but otherwise it was fine. In the end, it feels like a company that bought some rooms from the Sunrise hotel chain, and operated them without too much experience, or with carelessness. When travelling, I donโ€™t want to ask myself if Iโ€™m going to be able to sleep in a bed or not, I want to be secured by the hotel hosting me.

The main problem I have with this reservation is with the arriving and check in system. After arriving in Sokcho express bus terminal we managed to get a taxi however the address and name provided here confused the hell out of the drivers. We were staying at sunrise hotel which has this virtual managed check in deal with the world state management agency. The only real reason we didnโ€™t get lost/managed to make it to the hotel was because one of the taxi drivers looked at our map location and just said that sunrise hotel letโ€™s go. Also the staff at sunrise hotel donโ€™t actual have the ability to help with your room related problems. You only communicate with worldstate staff through WhatsApp chat. The actual check in process was wild I just got 4 links and room numbers and you click on the link to get number pad digits. There was no verification that you are who reserved the room. Thankfully we arrived late enough and I had WhatsApp to receive the messages from the Worldstate staff prior to arrival to the hotel. If youโ€™re arriving early text the hotel number in WhatsApp!!!! Now all the negative stuff out of the way the rooms were awesome, great views, clean and easy to use once you know the passcode. The area around the hotel has so many great food and shopping places. Within a 10 minute walk you can get to ocean with stunning night views. The actual staff in sunrise hotel are amazing spoke perfect English. Overall would rate 3.5/5 but this donโ€™t half option.
