On balance, my favorite value hotel in London
This is my second time staying at the Novotel London West. It has become my favorite value hotel in London. It is a large and impersonal hotel in a complex with Virgin Media and L'Oreal offices, but that's ok. It is only a five minute walk from the Hammersmith Tube stop, with multiple subway lines (including to Heathrow) and a wide variety of buses (for those heading to Kensington, the #9 stops very close to the hotel without having to walk to the station). The area around in the station and across the street have all the conveniences one needs for the little things: a Tesco metro, a Boots, multiple quick service food places, and a couple of pubs. Not a lot of tourists compared to Central London. The Tube from the LHR 123 stop to Hammersmith takes 34 minutes, and for tourists to get from Hammersmith to Green Park takes 15 minutes. The hotel itself is pleasant. The staff are very friendly. My room this time was a double-bedded room on the 7th floor. A little tricky if there were two people as the bed was close to one wall. Bathroom was a reasonable size, there was a small 2-seater sofa in the room, lots of electrical outlets, and a mini-fridge and a safe. The prices go a little crazy if there is something going on at the Olympia or at the Apollo. But weekend rates are very manageable, and even my Sunday/Monday night rate was excellent compared to being inside Zone 1.

Poor 2.0
Broken air conditioner for weeklong stay
The hotel lobby & restaurants look modern and clean. We ordered food from the lounge bar & the staff there were nice but got our order wrong. The hotel location was close to the tube & bus. the negative: room was small and once we pulled out sofa bed, hardly any room to walk around. No room to store suitcases. Staff was not rude but not at all welcoming. On our 1st night we didn’t get any sleep because the room was stuffy despite setting the thermostat at 5 degrees (I even climbed on the bed to check the vents but the air was hot. & it was so nasty as if they’ve never been cleaned). Our friend stayed in room next door & she had the same issue. She tried to sleep with her window open but the traffic noise kept her awake. I spoke to reception desk staff the next night and they said they’d send someone up within 15 minutes. After wasting an hour waiting, I called again & they finally sent the maintenance man. he told us the air con was broken and it wouldn’t be fixed for at least another week. I explained I have a kid with allergies and the room conditions were aggravating his illness. his 1st solution was to move me to a room that wasn’t facing the highway so I could sleep with the window open. After I said that was unacceptable, he offered to bring me a tabletop fan. (I ended up opening the window while we got ready for bed for the rest of the week and closing it before laying down). However, my son sneezed the whole time we were at the hotel and had several nosebleeds.

Good stay with room for improvement
This hotel is quite busy and is more geared towards business travellers, bus tours, flight crews and other large groups. The hotel itself is quite nice and the location is very convenient. The entrance is a little out of the way and not great for strollers and luggage. It is steps to the Underground and the Broadway Centre Mall. There are plenty of restaurants, pubs, clothing stores, food stores in the area. The “9” bus line is a 1 minute walk away and takes you straight to some major attractions such as St James Park, Trafalgar Square, Etc. The front desk and breakfast service is slightly worse than I expected but that is probably because they deal with so many guests. Housekeeping was quite good during our stay but our room was not ready until 2:30pm even though it is a 2pm check in. I believe they were just too busy. The breakfast buffet food quality was average and the selection was good. They change up a few items daily to provide some variety but always have the basics. During our stay they had up to a 20 minutes wait during peak breakfast time to get a table as they were quite busy. All in all, the stay was comfortable but not as stress free as we would have liked.

Comfort and excellence
I was very pleased to have made this booking and my stay left me feeling rested. This Accor Hotels premises is what you would expect from a chain hotel: spacious; well appointed; on-site amenities. The staff are approachable and helpful. The room I had was well designed and maintained, with good illumination, storage space and features. The hotel kitchen will address dietary needs. The hotel bar is well stocked. The location of the hotel is extremely handy for London public transport, with both Hammersmith Underground Station and Bus Station a matter of minutes away, well within reasonable walking distance, as is the River Thames at Hammersmith Bridge. The hotel is a good choice for a London city break and, considering its location, it is also a relevant choice for those stopping over for a couple of days during flight changes who wish to be nearer to the city, there being a direct connection via London Underground to Heathrow Airport along the Piccadilly Line. There is also the legendary Eventim Hammersmith Apollo venue five minutes walk away for music, comedy and other shows of interest. There is a good mix of local shops and there are pubs and restaurants - including those catering for vegetarian and vegan choices.

Seasoned traveller
A good first experience of Novotel which was convenient for the event I was attending in Kensington High Street. A good welcome and friendly staff once I had found reception which was not clearly marked in the lifts - in fact not marked at all in the lift I used so used. I was upgraded which is always nice and the room was clean and quiet and well equipped with a view over London. The sitting area chairs were very uncomfortable so I didn't bother and resorted to the bed which was very comfortable! The TV guide didn't work at all so I had to keep going through channels to find something to watch. In the end I gave up. I'm not mad about TV but when travelling alone it can be company, it would have been good to be able to see what was available at a glance. The bathroom was modern, if a bit dark and the shower good, lots of towels etc. I was a tad chilly in the night. Hotels assume that you want to turn up the heating but actually I like to sleep in a room with fresh air and a warm bed. You can't get fresh air in most big hotels so you have to turn the heating down, but then the duvet is not enough so an extra blanket in the wardrobe would have been icing on the cake for me and made my rating a 5. Travel information in the room would have been helpful - buses, tubes, how to get around etc. The WiFi was excellent. I ate in the bar, it had horrible music but after all these years I'm thankfully immune. Food was average and acceptable, staff friendly and helpful.
