Profile: Foggy Bottom

Foggy Bottom is a neighborhood that sits west of Downtown Washington D.C. in the northwest quadrant of the city. There’s a lot to learn at the area’s many historic landmarks, and a visit to the George Washington University Museum is an educational way to spend an hour or two.

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is one of the most popular theatrical hubs in the city. Located on the banks of the Potomac River, this center offers visitors a great night out, hosting everything from ballet extravaganzas to glitzy musicals.

Had its day in the sun

Hotel relies on its name and history too much. Needs something new. Great location. Value for money was questionable when you once again get slugged with a rubbish "Resort Fee". This is becoming common across the USA and is nothing more than a money grab. Facilities like a pool and WiFi are standard in any 5 star hotel anywhere else in the world. There is no justification for charging extra for these. We arrived early and our room was not ready which was understandable however it just so happened that an upgraded room was immediately available for an extra $50.00 per night. Seemed a little convenient but OK. Apparently the hotel had a recent makeover however it looks a little dated and there appear to be some maintenance issues. The lock to our balcony did not work so we were moved to another room. The lock to that balcony was also jammed and could not be secured. We did not want to move again so we just put up with it. Probably wouldn't stay again.

    Disappointing experience

Disappointing... My husband and I flew from Australia and have been traveling through the US for several weeks.. expecting a five service and experience, we were faced with cold and rude receptionists, the people in the bar were just as bad! Our room wasn’t clean, the bathroom was disgusting and there was lipstick on the wine glass. I had to complain twice in person and in writing before somebody came to assist us. We definitely will never come back!

It was my next, quite long (5 days) stay at this hotel. Unfortunately, this was the worst of my stays. The restaurant is closed for lunch and dinner. No mini bar in the room (disgusting coffee available with a nespresso coffe maker - fakes are always bad). No shower gel/body wash in the pool/spa area for five days in a row. Besides, not everything is available in the pool/spa area - for which the hotel charges an additional fee!!! Oh, it's only a 5-star hotel - so what to expect?! Certainly not worth the money spent here! Ps. If you are "golden" do not count on any free upgrades!!!

3 star hotel for the prise of 5 stars. Be aware of

Overpriced for what it offers. Our first room 417 was next to the elevator and the noice was unbearable. We requested a nee room. The second one 326 was cold and not properly cleaned. It took 50 minutes and 3 calls to get an additional blanket. There was hair and terrible smell in the bathroom. Likely a pipe was returning canalisation dirty water We were charged a big fee for “ resort “. There was no resort activity there of any kind. The outside pool was closed.

to much meh for the money

The room information for the King deluxe room with a river view has a photo of a bathtub. You do not get a bathtub. Generally, the hotel was fine. But for that much money I expect more than just fine.

Great property! Service? Not so much.

Great property, lovely room with a fantastic view. convenient to the monuments, etc. The service however left much to be desired. The one housekeeper with whom I interacted was perfectly lovely, and *one* of the valets was also friendly and clearly wanted to be as helpful as possible. The remainder of the staff during our 3-night stay was at best okay and at worst rude and dismissive. We travel a lot and are friendly, laid back people. We are not difficult to please or to get along with, and both worked in service in the past. We were quite disappointed in the service. My husband overheard another couple in the valet area say they'd been coming there for years and would never come back. I understand COVID has made it difficult to staff appropriately. There is a difference between understaffed and just plain rude.

The only disappointing aspect was I had to wait for a long time for my room to be ready. But they were great about storing bags and the hotel is really cool, so fun to hang out . The restaurant in the basement was very fun. Like every thing right now, it was under staffed , we were not in a hurry , so it didn’t matter, and ended up being a lovely brunch!
