Exceptional 10.0
Great Location, Clean, and Spacious
Stayed at the Mercure Oxford Eastgate with my daughter who had just finished a Study Abroad program at Oxford. The hotel was perfectly situated close to Magdalen College and easily within walking distance of everything we wanted to see while visiting this lovely city. The room was exceptionally spacious by European standards, clean, and well appointed. Wifi worked well! I highly recommend this property and would stay again if I am ever in Oxford in the future.

Comfortable, convenient, wonderful staff.
I've stayed at the Mercure several times; this was the first time I was given a room that was larger than a "court room" (this is what some hoteliers call a small room with a single bed only). So the room was spacious and very quiet b/c it was not facing the street (the busy High Street). I absolutely love the fact that the hotel is air-conditioned, though this July in Oxford is far less hot than in previous years. There's are very nice breakfast (not normally included with the room fee), the wifi (free) is very strong, and generally it is very pleasant overall. The location is ideal for my purposes. The real stand out is the staff, who are wonderfully helpful—and they really helped me out this time, with grace and good cheer. I did not stay at the Mercure during my visit to Oxford last summer, and I deeply regretted it at the time and ever since. (The other hotel, in the city center, was just plain awful.) I will not make that mistake again!

Short trip to oxford
The hotel location was ideal for our trip for the unit open day - within a few minutes walk of lots of colleges. The staff were all friendly, professional and helpful. I had not originally booked breakfast but added it on when checking in - well worth the money - lovely produce well cooked. The room was on the top floor and although small had everything we needed for our short trip. Would definitely return when visiting oxford in the future

Oxford's Eastgate
We liked the comfort and service very much in an excellent location for visiting the university. Also the ease with which on could come and go, and the friendly and attentive staff.

Not impressed.
we were not impressed, we stayed because of the hotel's position, but would definitely not stay there again. The main desk was not helpful, I had rung to say we had two consecutive bookings, and could we stay in the same room, and although the same person was on duty as I had spoken to on the phone, our request was not honoured and we had to wait and sort it out. In spite of several requests our tv was not working on BBC1.It still did not work when we left, we had to watch on our laptop. There were steps up to the hotel, only one entry had any hand rails. The road to the hotel was all broken paving, a definite hazard.
