be careful!
Scarey area..nothing to do near by...everything is far. Hotel staff could step it up a notch... slow and the resturaunt is even slower and food is not good... The hotel is well kept and clean... looks flashy but the service is not as up to the standards.... Be careful in athens... avoid the metro my husband had his wallet stolen.... and we heard from alot! Of travelers similar stories and met a few couples that had thier passport stolen on the metro. The metro looks flash but dont be fooled they r professionals ..... be careful and stay in main tourist areas ...this hotel is not near anything touristy despite what they say.... safe travels.

Comfortable stay.
Good hotel. About 10 mins walk to the metro subway and a 30 min drive to the airport. 20 mins to the center of Athens.

Staff is AMAZING
I'm giving this hotel 4 stars mainly because the hotel staff is so kind, accommodating and simply extremely nice. The hotel was good for its value. For what I paid, it exceeded expectations. The breakfast every morning was great with plenty of options. The hotel rooms were okay. Pretty much what you would expect at this price point. The rooms were clean, the mini fridge was cold, and the room was a decent size. Cons: The beds were too firm for my preference (but not as bad as most hotels in Asia for those that are frequent travelers). The bathrooms were way too small. The shower was uncomfortable as the curtain kept blowing on me when attempting to take a shower. I just had to keep the shower curtain open (imagine how many people that curtain has been rubbed up against!) Also, the bathroom was pretty outdated. Lastly, my first night the hotel room was warm even though the AC was on blast. The hotel tried to "fix" it but it only got moderately better. I like my room cold and it certainly wasn't. No big deal for me though. The location is excellent. It's a 5 minute walk from the metro which connects you to all the great sites that you would want to see. Some tours/excursions pick you up directly from the hotel which was another major plus. Oh, and there was a balcony! We never used it, but it was there. Overall, good hotel for the price. If under the same budget, I would definitely stay there again!

Beautiful lobby, very hard beds
We stayed here for our last two nights in Athens. The front desk is staffed 24 hours/day, which was great because we got in at 2:30am after a delayed flight. It felt like an old time hotel -- big, elegant lobby, but slightly dated hallways. They had the biggest elevator of all of our hotels in Greece. Delicious breakfast buffet, including hot and cold food with juices and coffee. While I chose this hotel because of the proximity to the metro station, the walk to get there from metro was through dark narrow alleyways with uneven sidewalks. Not a route I would recommend at 2:30 in the morning. We walked back to the hotel after walking around the Plaka on our last night and passed 3 or 4 strip clubs on the way, so the neighborhood was definitely a mixed bag.

Excellent Athens base
I had an excellent, if brief, stay at the Golden Age Hotel. The facilities are excellent, location could not be better, and staff extremely courteous and efficient. Strongly recommended.
