Terrible customer service
This hotel has the worst customer service. I am a New Yorker, and always thought of the Carlyle as a staple of manhattan, so when We were searching for a hotel for our wedding night we decided to book the hotel. Of course true to life we had an issue prior to the wedding day, and I tried to cancel the reservation. I explained to them very honestly and carefully and they still will not refund our money, so we had to go to the hotel Anyway even though it was a major inconvenience. We get there, and it's just an old hotel with nothing amazing. The person at the front desk offered us complementary breakfast as we showed up in our wedding clothes, and made a notation in the computer, yet in the morning we were told there was no such offer. Overall, so highly disappointed. I think the only people who the Carlyle cares about are celebrities because the reputation of it being a wonderful hotel is absolutely not true. Our wedding night was supposed to be special and I regret booking this hotel. I usually do my own research regarding hotels, but since I am from NY, and always heard of the Carlyle, I assumed it had some credence. Extremely disappointed

You must stay at this elegant, comfortable hotel
I was slightly hesitant to book this hotel based on mixed reviews but am thrilled that I did. My daughter and I had the best stay at the Carlyle. The remodeled rooms are so elegant and every staff member is so completely kind you feel like you are staying at a relatives home. We had tea in The Gallery which was so pleasant , and also loved beginning some evenings and ending others enjoying live jazz at Bemelmans Bar. New York is a hectic place so after riding in cabs and ubers and doing a lot of walking it is so calming to come back to the Carlyle and relax it the comfort and quiet . The rooms are perfectly climate controlled and you never hear the air clicking on and off ( a big pet peeve of mine at a lot of hotels) We will definitely stay here again soon and really look forward to it!

In the Grand Style
Had business meetings downtown, but decided to stay here as a more peaceful retreat - so was a little out of way re business, but a great destination for leisure traveler. From the moment I walked in, I felt I had entered an upscale "private club". Checkin was quick and desk clerk escorted me to the elevator and discussed amenities. They actually have an elevator attendant who always greets you and accompanies guests to their floors. I would describe the hotel as "grand style" - a bit older, but classic. The room was larger than most in NYC. The bed and bedding was crisp and incredibly comfortable. The bathroom was large and the shower had spectacular pressure. The restaurant was spectacular and service incredible. Excellent hotel.

Very good 8.0
Classic charm, but needs a facelift
Hotel lobby and staff was a great start. Location is nice and quiet, close to the park and Madison Avenue shopping. However, the rooms really do need a facelift. Furniture was 'run down' and the bathroom was very dated. Clean, but was really expecting a lot more from the hotel. One note - no irons in any rooms! At least not in mine or my parents. My father called for an iron before dinner, after waiting over half an hour we had to leave to our reservation - without ever receiving the iron. Love the elevator attendants, but perhaps they may want to staff more towards the actual needs of their hotel guests - such as housekeeping, when a guest really just needs an iron! Brunch the Sunday was lovely. This hotel has a lot of charm, just needs an up-date for their rooms.

Poor 2.0
For a property charging the type of rates it does, to be in the absolute deplorable state, as my room was, the Expedia star rating totally failed me on this hotel! Except for the new Lurton light switches and plugs, many of whose features did not work, I do not believe the rooms have seen a full renovation since the mid-1980’s - the FF&E was that sorely dated! Many of the pieces of furniture had chipped paint, and a couple of times chips came off in my hands! It is an absolute insult this property is still part of Rosewood and the same one as The Mansion on Turtle Creek!
