Not happy with this particular Hampton Inn
For the quality of the rooms, crazy breakfast area and overall condition of the hotel, it is quite overpriced and does not at all compare to other Hampton Inn hotels we stayed in recently. Don't get fooled by the pictures depicting new furnishings. The hotel is old and dingy. We stayed in a room with two queen beds. The room was TINY. We could barely walk around the beds. Whatever cosmetic renovation was done, it was done poorly. The room feels dated and not well maintained with it's low popcorn ceiling, bad painting job, dirt under the AC unit, sticky carpet, bathroom door not closing all the way, sheets not changed on one of the beds, heavily soiled chairs, minimal space for luggage. Bathroom was tiny and renovated in a cheap way, so it looks good on pictures. Paper-thin walls. Overall, I wanted to move to another hotel during the night, as I was quite disgusted with the room and appalled by the price they charge for it. Years ago we had stayed in a cheap chain motel when travelling, they charged less than half of what we payed here and the room was pretty much the same. They count on their name and the constant flow of tourists. Common areas were equally bad (rusty and dirty AC grills everywhere). The one positive was that the staff was nice enough to come and change the dirty sheets within minutes of me calling the front desk. None of this is their fault. I've stayed in other major chain hotels that underwent renovations, but nothing lousy like this before. So sad.

Don't leave anything in your room!
The room was nice and clean, but the pillows were very lumpy and completely flattened in seconds. Bring your own pillows. I accidentally left my firestick remote behind in the room. When I called the woman said it would be $20 to ship it to me using FedEx. That's over twice what FedEx actually charges. She said it didn't matter, Hampton charges $20 regardless of how much the actual shipping costs are. I would have been ok with that if that was standard hotel practice, but it's not. I left a very big, heavy bag at La Quinta and they initially said it would be $38 to ship it. I agreed because of the size and weight of the bag. Afterwards the woman was able to ship it for cheaper at $18. I had already agreed to the $38 so she didn't even have to do that. She sent me a receipt for what they paid and only charged me exactly that. When I explained that to the woman at Hampton, she said there was nothing she could do and their property mangament company set the rate at $20 even if the cost is far less than that. Apparently Hampton is hurting for my $10 and didn't mind attempting to gouge me to get it. I decided to just buy another remote since it's cheaper to buy another one than have Hampton charge me over twice the shipping rate to ship it. I'll definitely stay at La Quinta next time.

Hotel going through renovation...be careful bookin
This hotel is in the middle of renovation and had I known that, I would not have booked a stay there at this time. Once the hotel is renovated, it will probably be nice. There were only two handicap accessible parking spots open (I use a handicap van with side ramp for my daughter) and they were never available. I was forced to drop my family off at the front entrance and park in the rear. Because the exterior of the hotel is being painted, most of the parking spaces near the hotel were blocked off with rope. The next day, I found my van covered with plastic tarp to keep it from being coated with white paint (my van is red). I think the hotel should have publicized the fact that this renovation was going to take place especially for $115 per night (I had two rooms, one with a handicap accessible bathroom. The handicap accessible rooms are a tight fit for wheelchairs or scooters. I had both and it was hard to maneuver in either room. I am a Hilton Honors member and I will do more research before booking with them next time. I have had better luck with Marriott.

Nice hotel and Close to Universal
The hotel is being renovated and during my stay the pool was closed during weekdays due to contractors working in the area. The pool is tiny anyway and you would probably be going to a water park if you wanted to swim anyway. The rooms are clean and tidy and the beds are comfortable. I found that I got a good nights sleep once I got used to the air conditioner noise which not something we require in the UK. The power shower was very strong and there was no way to change the shower head setting. Although this did wake me up quickly. You can't lock the bathroom door as it is a sliding door. This could be a problem if you have children or want to have privacy. The free breakfast is good and there is plenty of choice but it is basic and the later you go for it the less options there may be. The breakfast was 6-10am when I was there and started to get really busy at 8:30 and really hectic in the last half hour of it. It did make me chuckle when you saw those that came in with 15 minutes to go in their pajamas. There is a Universal sales desk by the breakfast area that you need to use to book your free shuttle ticket to Universal. The shuttles were really busy on the earliest running and the Hampton Inn is the first pick up on the route (or it was when I used it). You can walk to Universal but it is a 20-30 minute walk and you need to cross 3 or 4 roads with crossings. Taxis were a flat fare of $10 when I was there. Overall a good experience but at a quiet part of International Dr

The hotel was good and the location was perfect. Very close to Universal and lots of places to eat. Also had free shuttle to and from Universal. That being said the service was not great here . We stayed here for 3 nights . The room are very small - it may work out for a couple but with kids it was very very tight (there is really no place to store your bags). The service was awful - the crew only made the bed- they did not pick up wet towels that were left on the floor or replenish coffee or cups etc or clean up the room (garbage was left ).We called and complained and the front desk apologized and guess what day 2 same issue. There are a lot of other great hotels in the same location and I will not pick this one on our next trip.
