Better than Waikiki -Ala Moana Hotel in Ala Moana
Ala Moana neighborhood is a couple miles from Waikiki Beach. It’s much less crowded and has great amenities. We loved staying at Ala Moana Hotel (iour 2nd stay here) View from our balcony room If we faced our chairs towards Pacific Ocean was a great view but there was an urban street below us.. Our room was roomy and comfortable. The fitness room had newer equipment and the stationary bike I used was the best I’ve encountered. They also had dry and steam saunas in fitness area hallway. The outside pool looked inviting. We loved the Starbucks in the lobby and on Wednesdays & Saturdays there is a singer guitarist playing in the lobby. We never made it to the hotel restaurant on the 30something floor for happy hour because there were so nany other dining choices at the Ala Moana shopping center (we’ll do their happy hour on the next trip. Most of all- we loved the close walking proximity so we didnt need a rental car. It’s a few blocks walk to Ala Moana Beach Park and there’s a dedicated skywalk from this hotel to the Ala Moana shopping center( one of the largest in the world. We did take a 7 hour guided nature tour that went to Byodo Temple, North Beach areas, The tour included a lunch at a local shrimp stand with shave ice dessert and the stop at Dole Pineapple Plantation included a pineapple whip that was cold, creamy and delicious non- dairy treat not to be misou can either walk to Waikiki area or take a trolley ride or tour van there but why hassle with those crowds?

Nice, simple hotel
I came here for an anniversary staycation with my girlfriend. We were expecting the room to be a little bit bigger than it was, but we were still satisfied with it. We also got a room without an outside area, so if you are looking for an outside area, be sure to check that your room has one. The room was clean, there was a microwave and refrigerator, and the TV had all the basic channels and there was an option for putting an HDMI cord so we could watch Netflix on my girlfriends computer. The wifi is fast with no spottiness, so that was also great. The hotel is right next to the Ala Moana center and the beach, so most things are within a walking distance. We also liked the pool and the exercise center. The pool was kind of small, so my girlfriend couldn't really do laps in it, but it was great to just chill in there. The exercise room was also small, but it had all the basic things in there for running and weight lifting, so we were able to work out all the areas that we wanted to. The staff were nice and friendly, the check-in and check-out was fast and efficient, even when we asked them if we could add on an extra night (we were able to!) All in all, a great hotel for the price. Next time, we will probably upgrade our room so that we can get a little bit bigger room with an outside area, but still a great experience nevertheless!

Convenient and Quiet
Booked a mountain view 1 BR suite for four nights. First night was on the sixth floor and the hotel has rooms from floor 6 to 35. Disappointed as this would be worst room in the category. The next three nights was moved to ocean view 1 BR suite on the 28th floor which was same room other end of the hallway but a much nicer view. Checkin was fast, room was clean and in good condition. The suites are the last rooms on end of the long hallway with the double doors. Quiet as no hallway traffic. Nice to be close to Ala Moana Shopping Center providing a large choice of restaurants and stores. Much less traffic noise than the hotels on Kalakaua that we have stayed at in the past. Easier to drive into and out of the hotel for the same reason as this is not it Waikiki. The 1 BR suite has a two burner range, convection oven, dishwasher as advertised but there are absolutely no kitchen ware, cutlery, plates, pots etc. All cabinets are absolutely bare. So if you plan to cook this is not a good choice. Beyond the two mugs next to the coffee maker and two glasses in the bathroom there is nothing else in terms of kitchen stuff. Fortunately we just wanted the extra room but it would have been nice to have a few plates and some cutlery. Wife and I would stay there again as the price for a 1 BR oceanview suite would be comparable to an oceanview room in Waikiki. $25 per day for valet parking. Free wifi but as with most hotel wifi very slow.

Accessibility for the Physically Challenge
I needed to have a recliner or chair to sleep in for I am not able to lie flat. I was given an accessible room with a king bed. My daughter was traveling with me. The manager on duty spoke to housekeeping and they brought me a sofa bed that I may use sitting up since they did not have a recliner. They had to move the bed to make room for it. I mentioned that a regular chair would suffice however they insisted that my comfort was their priority and will find a solution which they did. I feel they went out of their way to ensure that my stay was pleasant. We physically challenged individuals didn't ask to be in this predicament and to request special requirements sometimes is met with negativity but the Ala Moana Hotel made me feel just as important as the next person that is not physically challenged. Kudos to them for their sensitivity and compassion. I highly recommend this hotel. I just wish to make a comment about the toilet. When flushing it, I guess the pressure was the reason but it was so loud that it initially scared me but during the night often woke up my daughter for I went to the bathroom often.

Many areas need fixing and/or upgrading. Carpets, walls dirty, bathroom fixtures falling off walls. It needs a casual restaurant. The pool and area needs a major overhaul. Its like a cement box with a pool dropped in. So much more potential to spuce it up make it more inviting. More plants all around for tropical atmosphere and coolness, cushions on hot plastic dirty chairs, tables with umbrellas. Open a food/beverage bar out there. No where to eat ir drink, more people would use it. In the week I was there it was almost always empty. I was very disappointed in the first room they assigned. Minimal ocean view and no balcony which was not stated on web site. I paid to upgrade to get both. I asked for a senior, AAA or agent discount in which I was told there were none. The desk staff were very friendly and helpful. The Bell desk not so much. Starbucks staff was not friendly. The Signature was nice but very pricey and there is no restaurant inbetween breakfast and dinner.
