I visit cousins in Old Saybrook annually and Blue Pier Inn is my go to spot. It’s nothing fancy but it’s a good value and good location and I always get a good nights rest. It could use a little sprucing up but I hear the owners are doing some renovations.

The staff were nice and the sheets were clean. That’s about all the positives I can say. The room stunk of cigarettes and the walls were dirty. The chain lock for the door was partially held together by a rope. The bathroom was very old and you couldn’t tell if the floor was dirty or just very worn. If this wasn’t the only reasonably priced place I would have gone somewhere else.

Start with something good - staff was nice and helpful. Unfortunately this property is not really meant to be open. It is undergoing a massive renovation. Veey messy. Lacked fluffy pillows and the towels are threadbare. Cobwebs everywhere. Thankfully no bugs. Lacked coffee made for you in the morning. They did have a mini coffee maker in the room, but not one to make myself coffee on vacation .And for the cost they should offer breakfast

The vibe of PBG didn’t quite match up with my original expectations for a coastal beachside inn, but we had a great time. This was largely due to a room upgrade upon arrival and the kindness of the inn keeper. I’d request a room at the back of the property, which has a gorgeous view out onto the marshes and faces the West so the sunrise doesn’t rain in through your window in the morning. The bed was very comfortable, the rooms were quiet despite being on a main road, and the AC worked great. Oh, and hot tip. The Tea Kettle restaurant across the road has a fantastic breakfast.

Kind and helpful staff. Didn't have a place to refill our water bottles but she gave us some complimentary water bottles. The room was comfortable and clean. There was a smell in the room and I couldn't tell if it was from cleaning supplies or the AC or what. I'm usually very sensitive to smells but thankfully whatever it was we got used to it and it didn't bother me. Appreciated the affordable price.
