10/10 Exceptional

This was easily one of the nicest places I've ever stayed. Tim and Phyllis had to rebuild after Hurricane Irma, like most of everybody in the V.I. They've put together their house and this accompanying villa on the southwest corner of St. John. The villa is airy and comfortable, with genuinely astounding views. I would never have guessed that I could watch the weather over the sea for hours, but I never got tired of watching a squall roll in. Lizards and deer and iguana wandered by.
So that's location. Location is good. The villa itself is clean and well-stocked with pots and pans and dishware. We had plenty of towels for beaches and showers. The rainfall shower is a bit luxurious. The bed is high and soft with so many pillows. The sheets are nice. The dresser in the bedroom has a bottom drawer filled with good beach reads. There's A/C throughout, but you almost surely won't need it; the wind comes through and the bedroom has screen doors on the west and south, and you can sleep to the sounds of the wind and the water.
Tim and Phyllis are kind and gregarious and won't bother you if you need some quiet. Tim picked us up at the ferry and took us to our Jeep rental place, which was really appreciated. You will have to rent a car to stay here, but driving on St. John is fun. Tim gave two dazed New Yorkers a quick summary of the lay of the land, complete with grocery store recommendations. They have a cooler and beach chairs for lending. Their water is delicious.
