If what you’re looking for is an affordable hotel room convenient to downtown Chicago, The Lakeshore Hotel is worth considering. It’s not fancy but my room was clean and comfortable.

Clean room. Comfortable beds. Working a/c. But terrible WiFi which was a bummer. Not much around the hotel as it is a very residential area. But still more economical to stay here and uber into the city than to pay downtown prices.

Good deal, but property under renovation. Inside the room was fine and had been redone, although there was a bid of dampness smell coming from the old AC unit. Outside there were dumpsters right outside our units and the sidewalks were crumbling. I assume most of this will be rectified with the completion of the renovation. Overall, there are not a lot of options in the Hyde Park area and this was affordable; plus it was a nice walk to both the downtown Hyde Park area and the lake trail/Promontory Point via the pedestrian overpass.

Well located for Hyde Park. Refurbished old motel was OK and clean, but there was no hair dryer, place to hang clothes, or luggage rack, and one thin blanket on the bed. Frig, microwave, and coffee OK. Only needed one night stay but would not use for a longer stay.

We were in town for business and had 2 rooms with several issues, 509 and 511. We had 4 more nights booked but cancelled. The rooms have no way to hang up clothes. Rom 509 tv only got CBS and all other stations said poor signal. The vanity areas need brighter lighting. 511 had a clogged toilet, but we left without reporting. The parking lot is in disrepair and the hotel is dated. see pic. At 9:45AM we heard a power drill adjacent to 509. The beds were comfy.

The room was really spotless. Really comfortable bed and the pillows are nice as well. Comes with microwave and fridge as well. However the shower head pressure was significantly weak. And the plugs for both nightstands didn't work. It would have been nice if there were a complimentary breakfast as well. But overall the room was really good.

The outside area was okay. The inside was clean, bed was comfortable. There was a microwave (didn’t use) and refrigerator. Large screen tv was nice. Water pressure was just okay. Had some issues checking in because I used my initials (which is what I go by) on my reservation and my ID has my name fully written out. The front desk was not going to let me stay because of that. I had to call Hotels.com and finally they changed my reservation to state my full name. Was not off to a good start. Did have some nice restaurants near by and the lake was across the main road.

You get what you pay for! Great price and location plus very nice staff and newly remodeled. But they don’t apparently have everything ready; 1. No ice machine even though they have ice buckets in the room 2. A closet to hang clothes, but no bar or shelf to allow you to do that. 3. Hit water just warm and weak stream. 4. Zero rooms ready to use at the 3:00 pm check-in time. I can’t explain that. 5. No bkfst at all. Yes, that was in their amenities list, but for that price you should get something.

Pleasant surprise

Booked here for the Chicago marathon and was pleasantly surprised with the hotel given the not so nice reviews. Place is clean and well maintained. Got a room with 2 double beds and room is very spacious. Even had a mini ref and microwave. Got coffees and teas as well. Restroom had a tub and ample supply of toiletries. Ice dispenser is available at the floor as well. Breakfast is decent. Will stay here again if I’m in the area.

lower cost booking with Best Western perks

The Chicago Lake Shore Hotel served worked well for my wife and I while in town for Lollapalooza. Bus/train stop is just a 9 minute walk away. This hotel is run by the same people as the Best Western next to it and that is where you’ll find your amenities like ice, hot morning breakfast, and any late night candy craving. Be sure to put out your “do not disturb” sign if you want to sleep in as house keeping likes to get to work early. No fridge and microwave in rooms but great A/C and hot water. For best experience try to get a top floor unit so you don’t have to hear everyone coming in and out. There is also an EV charger located in the Best Western portion of the property. No pool available but the lake is right there.

First off, I have to say the two staff members at the front desk at check-in and -out were some of the friendliest, most welcoming, helpful hotel personnel I've ever encountered. Truly, ever. I wouldn't even be writing this review if not for them. Give them a raise. The room was fine. Very accessible. Free parking and a short walk to the Metra, which was sooo awesome. There were a couple dirty towels left hanging in the bathroom though, which is our only real complaint that it seems like it wasn't fully cleaned before we arrived.

The room was clean, but the area is not the best area to stay in. Especially on a weekend, There is Herold Washington Park just around the corner that becomes a scary place, paticularly on a Saturday night. Even though no one ever bothered us or came around the hotel that we seen. The hotel itself is a decent and clean place, the only complaint I have about the room itself was that the T.V does not have service. The 3 channels that came through every once in a while had alot of static and rarely even had a signal. It would be great if the owners could join the modern era of tv and download apps like HBOMAX or Disney+ so guests can log into their own accounts. One plus of the location is that it is a close uber ride to the Obama Presidential Center.

I needed to find a place that was safe and affordable, and this fit the bill. TV didn't work due to a recent storm, and they weren't able to fix it, which was a negative. No food, no ice on site. But the basics were covered, and the staff tried to be helpful.

It was great. Staff was nice. The room was clean and the hallways had great photos of the city which made it feel more safe and comfortable. The breakfast was great, nice large and comfortable lobby area with view of the water. Nice neighborhood close to the college so lots of great restaurants were just a 10-15 min walk away.
