Fabulous 8.6 From 714 reviews

Very good 8.0
Beautiful setting, nice decor in common areas. Did not eat at the restaurant but it looked very nice. My only complaints were two minor issues, but kept me from a higher rating. First, on arriving at my room, there was a fruit basket and bottle of wine set up on the desk. At first I thought it might be an amazing amenity, but then I saw a note from the staff, addressed to someone else. It was thanking him for staying at the hotel and basically “enjoy your stay”. Then I realized it was placed there for another guest, so rather than say “oh well, too bad for them”, I called the desk to report the mix up. The person who answered left the line, presumably to ask a manager what to do, then returned to inform me that room service had made a mistake, and they would come to remove the items. When the room service attendant arrived, he picked up the stuff, and mentioned that it was intended for a VIP. I realize I was a first time guest, and not a VIP, but really the situation was quite awkward. I felt that an apology was in order, and it would have been appropriate to bring some small token item ( a few strawberries, single glass of wine, or similar) when the room service attendant came, to make it less awkward. Second, I called the valet to bring my car up the next morning, and then still waited 15 minutes before someone asked me if I needed help. Turns out no one went to get the car, making me late to an event. Would stay again, hopefully this was just bad luck.

The Iconic Luxe Suxe!
The internet was well below par, it would work in 15 minute increments and the smart cast on the TV worked the first day we checked in and did not worked again until 6 days later when I called the front desk to have them fix it. I then went out on Tuesday and could not find my car in the parking lot, only to think the valet had parked it in the lower lot, 5 hours later I came out and found it parked at valet. I was told “I had text to get it”. EXCEPT I hadn’t! When I complained to GABRIEL the next day he blamed it on the guests mixing up the their tickets. REALLY?! Our room was also cleaned after having a do not disturb sign being put up. That supposedly didn’t happen either, but our since my daughter had brain surgery and the room could not have anyone it and I had her bed covered with bleached and lysol on her bedding and had the sign up all week and found on the inside of the door, i find it humorous. My parents who stayed in a different room had called the front desk on Monday to see about a reclining chair for my daughter for after her discharge from the hospital on Tuesday. They said they did not have a chair, BUT we could use a pool lounge chair. Soooo on Tuesday night after my daughter was settled and asleep my MIL and I got the chair and bought to the room. On Thursday when HK came in to clean without permission they took the chair and left a condescending message on our VM about how we weren’t allowed to have a chair in our room. NOT my IDEA!

Its ok
The Hotel simply isn't very welcoming. The Hotel hosts a lot of functions with people coming in just for the day- The daytime guests/conference attendee's comfort seems to be more of a priority for the Hotel. I had stayed here once a few years ago and really liked it but things seem to have changed. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are quite large, but- it's just not pleasant. Our trip was extended and we decided to relocate to the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. It's marginally more expensive but far superior in service, staff and amenities. The Beverly Hilton also hosts many functions, but as a hotel guest there, I have never felt I was 'in the way.' At Luxe Sunset, I felt like the Hotel felt they were doing me a big favor letting me pay for a an almost solid brown room (all the walls, the carpet, are all brown). By Contrast, at the Beverly Hilton, the staff seem to embrace doing whatever they can to make you feel appreciated and cared for. Oh, the Luxe has a nice wide stair case, but the elevator is TEENY TINY, and slow. If I was traveling with someone on crutches, in a wheelchair, or with a walker I would suggest we stay elsewhere. The room service is limited but the food was ok. The staff seemed mostly stressed most of the time.

Third Party Booking Treatment
Room given is traditionally utilized for "Risky Guest" or "Guest who fit that profile" Profile taught to staff in training. Room provided was for hadicap, right next to lobby, and looking out at valet/hotel lobby entrance rooftop!! 900 sq ft of empty space..I assume they didn't want me to destroy or take anything. Furniture from 80's, bathroom vanity and tub were ADA ready for wheelchairs, because room was first on the floor, HVAC system housing was above it..EXTREMELY loud all night long! After complaining next morning I was given the STANDARD luxury room I should have received upon checking in!! Pretty pathetic hotels are profiling there guest in 2018!! After trying to figure out WHY I was treated like this, it occurred to me I was asked three times about using a Credit Card instead of Business Debit Card when checking in. Statements like "We're going to put a $150 hold on the card for each night, it's like taking the cash" "You sure this is OK" 'Hold on I have to go in the back for something" Manger comes out to see who is using Debit Card! 2 star room is granted in 5 star hotel! WOW - I was so tired after flying 6 hrs with additional 3 hr airport delay, I didn't catch on! Had I did, I would have gladly reached into my carry on bag and made sure 1 of 8 Gold Cards fell onto the counter! Crazy thing - I started a Sports Entertainment company 20 years ago down the street from the hotel. This was my first trip back to check on staff & company after relocating to east coast!

On display where people left cars with the valet
Our room was right above the upper valet parking area and next to a stairwell. While the valets were ALWAYS quiet, the hotel guests were not, and we were constantly hearing talking outside the balcony, and were woken up early in the morning and late at night as guests arrived or left. You could hear every step taken on the stairwell. Staff would stand at the end of the hall and talk, albeit quietly, but still could be heard through the door. There was no privacy whatsoever from our windows from the valet area so we had to keep the drapes closed most of the time as you could see right into the room from outside. Other rooms had privacy hedges. It felt like we were put in the boonies because we didn't pay full price for the room. Toiletries and coffee bar were never fully stocked after cleaning. We did make a request for decaf coffee and black tea one time which was honored but the next day nothing was restocked. We requested a working make up mirror and it was replaced with another one that also didn't work. The service staff were all very, very pleasant, we have no complaints about any of them. But it was not a great experience.
