A lovely boutique hotel in the historic "Rocks"
The Lord Nelson Brewery Hotel is a charming old hotel with a lot of character. We previously stayed there in January 2020 and were looking forward to staying there again. Overall our stay was very good, but should note there have been changes: The lovely breakfast is no longer served and early check-in is not offered. While our room was clean and very comfortable, the old windows rattled considerably in the wind, which was frequent due to the prominent location of the hotel on the promontory. The bathroom was quite functional, but needed some minor plumbing maintenance. Noting that there is no elevator. Our room was on the top floor. (3 flights of stairs.) Dinner at the hotel was excellent.

The hotel is nearly 200 years old and shows it. The building has undergone renovation in the past but it could sure use another face lift. I spoke to the owner about the restaurant on premises, who said getting help is very hard so the restaurant is closed for the foreseeable future. There are other restaurants for dinner not too far away but not breakfast or lunch. Rooms are on the third floor accessed by stairway, no elevator. That gets old with more than one suitcase. Not too bad with a backpack or small suitcase. Staff are friendly and the room clean. But, bring an electrical adapter if your chargers are meant for 120vac. An adapter can be purchased close by for $10. If one needs a hairdryer they will provide. This establishment is a brewery and pub so be prepared for loud customers late into the evening. Customers can drink outside so the noise level can be considerable. It is a quaint hotel and rates are fairly reasonable. However, if noise is a consideration or climbing stairs is an issue then stay away. Otherwise this place is an adventure.
