We stayed for 6 nights. The hotel lobby and bar are truly spectacular, beautifully maintained and tastefully arranged. Service was great. The room however (we stayed in penthouse 1) was not quite what I'd expect of a penthouse: There was only one window to the city, the room was dark, and awkwardly arranged - it seemed more like a storage room than a penthouse. Decor in the room is quite dated (unlike the lobby, not in a good way). The bed/mattress was saggy could do with an upgrade. The minibar, frankly, does not belong into a hotel of that rank and name. There should be a "maxi" bar, featuring fine spirits, good wines by the bottle, and of course, champagne. That doesn't go into a key locked fridge, but in a nicely arranged piece of furniture - which was there, but unfortunately unused. The location is brilliant, a 5 minute walk from Powell's, and minutes from great restaurants. It would be great if coast hotels would consider joining the ranks of US hotel operators that pay their employees decent salaries so that tipping finds its way back to the original meaning: a gesture of thanks for exceptionally good service, not as a part of the base salary leaving us, the client, with the unpleasant aftertaste of supporting third world habits of throwing dollar bills to the poor.

Great restored wood paneled hotel with all the modern comforts. Park next door lower basement and take the tunnel direct to the Benson. Best value for money in the town and Expedia is always 20% lower than the hotel's "best guaranteed" rates.

The rooms, while being a little smaller than some comparative Hotel rooms, they were nonetheless well laid out and contained all the amenities required for a quiet comfortable stay. The Hotel is well located with short walks to city centre, Railway Stations, restaurants and breweries.(Everything for an enjoyable stay) The AC was a little noisy when it turned on, but did not overly disturb sleeping due to the very comfortable bed and pillows.

We had a delightful stay at The Benson - a special treat for the end of our USA holiday, before our long flight back to AUS. The service was fabulous - friendly, professional and obliging. Our suite was particularly special... A great location - very close to everything, including our car hire company. Thank you (we'd stay again)!

Our stay at the Benson was short and great. The lobby is beautiful and the architecture is unreal. The customer service was top notch. Our room however, didn’t match the grandiose of the lobby. Old carpet like your grandmas house, slightly musty, and HARD beds. The bathroom was gorgeous. I wouldn’t not stay here again.
