Amazing area, grounds and pools carved out of the volcanic rock. Snorkelling was poor due to type/ state of coral. Wind blows in regularly and strongly. Staff are great and very friendly. Visitors are not overly friendly- maybe because it is upper class? Overall great relaxing time for a few days. Luau was great- expensive per head but a great experience

Wonderful location. Beautifully maintained facilities with gorgeous heated pools and poolside loungers plus access to the private beach with opportunities to swim, snorkel and hire beach equipment. Reasonably priced resort activities. Tasty food. Delicious pina coladas! Hire cars available with resort discount. Walking distance to nearby shops. Friendly, personable staff. Highly recommend.

The only negative was the resort fee 30usd plus tax a night. Though you get a resort passport with different activities and coupons to use around the resort in return and I quickly learnt these resort fees are charged everywhere in Hawaii (we are now in Waikiki) Wifi was good! Food great! Rooms super clean and comfortable. Best thing about the resort by far was the staff. They were the nicest people very very good hospitality reminded me of NZ. We are planning a trip back with the rest of our family! Thanks for having us

    Nice but pricey

As expected, the Marriott is a nicely appointed upscale resort with comfy beds, great sheets, and the best air conditioner of our Big Island stay. It’s a beautifully decorated and landscaped place with a bit of a Disney feel of unreality. Staff were wonderfully kind and helpful. Daily resort fees and parking fees will add an additional $60 a day to your daily cost which is already pricey. Nice pool area that could use some more umbrellas and shady spots. Go to the pool in the morning as it did get really crowded once the day trippers returned to the hotel – lots of kids as they have a separate kids pool right next to the infinity pool. The beach is beautiful and the water refreshing, but there is a large ridge of coral right after you enter the water, so be sure to wear your reef shoes. No shade on the beach unless you rented a cabana (only 4 available), but some people did bring their own beach umbrellas. Food was expensive as it is everywhere on the island, but the breakfast sandwiches and lattes from the small fast casual place in the lobby were surprisingly large, good and fairly priced. We did not eat at the hotel restaurant but did go to the mall nearby (walking distance) which had a few restaurants. There is also an ABC store for inexpensive food options and souvenirs.

This resort is in a phenomenal location. While Hilo and Kona both experienced rain, we never once saw anything but sunshine. The Waikoloa region is very windy, which despite a June trip meant that the area was very comfortable without being hot. The hotel itself seemed a bit older but well kept and recently updated. There were abundant areas for relaxation both in the sun and shade. A wonderful beach with breathtaking sunset views really served us well. Similarly, the three pools and spas were a welcome change of pace. Further, at nights when the wind brought cool air they were nicely warmed so we could use them late into the evenings. There was great shopping nearby and a great little beach bar within a 5 minute walk along the beach (Lava Lava). The biggest drawback was the food and drink. The hotel food was bland and over priced. The cocktails were tasty but weak and expensive at $15 per drink. Unfortunately, this seemed to be a common issue, with most of the area restaurants, primarily located at the shops across the street, suffering from a similar lack of seasoning and poor quality ingredients. The one place we found that seemed to have good quality food was the adjacent beach bar, Lava Lava, which seemed to have good quality Ahi tuna in addition to standard beach fare.

There was only one restaurant. The luau is sold out for weeks. I asked for and PAID for ocean view and saw a parking lot. After getting an upgrade the last day, the suite was infested with small roaches.

We checked in and went to the pool. We were told the rooms would be ready by 3:00 and they were ready by 4:00pm. They were nice rooms. The coffee bar offering in the room was slim. No glasses only two little styrofoam cups. More cups please. The ice dispenser and water dispenser down the hall was great. The pool hut communication was good once we got to talk with everyone and they got the help we needed in place. The staff training seemed inconsistent so they didn’t all know the process. They were all great people. Once we settled in things went well. The landing was a little rough. We would go back and now that we know some of the people would probably reach out to them to help us rather than trust all will flow unannounced. All the folks were great and the hotel is beautiful.

    Fine but nothing special

Our stay here was sufficient and certainly not bad, but also definitely not as special as the other places we stayed during our trip that were similar price points. Food was okay, could use some more umbrellas in the pool area (very few available). The staff were mostly nice but was surprised they would not accommodate request for late checkout, despite having gold status with Marriott. The beach was nice and good sunset views.
