Fair 4.0
Older hotel with poorly trained staff.
I travel extensively and have never been treated so poorly at a hotel before. Travel was booked months in advance for a special event in Orlando. (Not a last minute booking.) Staff at time of check in refused to honor booking despite being presented with credit cards and ID with the same name as booking. Their reason, the FIRST name on the Drivers License was a different variation of the names on ID and credit cards. (Nickname vs legal name, varies by 3 letters.) In All the times I have traveled this has never been an issue. The staff, one claiming to be manager and one desk clerk, were extremely rude and unhelpful. They called Security as if I were some sort of vagrant or imposter. Their only offer of solution was to call Expedia and have the name on the account changed. When I finally insisted they call a manager or supervisor, they called the Rosen booking department, who had no idea what was going on. That person than transferred me to a "data" person who ultimately told the desk clerk to check me in. This entire circus was over an hour. Finally getting into the room, it stunk, there was hair in the bathroom, and the AC made a constant high pitched squeal. I was afraid to complain for fear of having security called and being evicted from the hotel. I was not contacted by the day manager as stated. I was also told early entry passes to Universal were included with stay. No one on staff had any idea what that meant when we brought it up later.

Good 6.0
Great staff, clean hotel, very uncomfortable beds!
First of all know that this is the Rosen closest to Universal. There are about 7 Rosen’s within a mile and it can be confusing. I want so bad to rate this hotel 5 stars but the beds and pillows are terrible. If you like a firm mattress this is the place for you! The bed is very hard. The pillows are paper thin. Let me focus on the positives. The price was great. It was very clean and if you’re going to Universal the location is perfect. Less than $7 in a Lyft or you can take the free shuttle which only runs a few times a day. It’s right across from Universal’s Volcano Bay There are lots of great restaurants up and down international drive. Look for Millers Ale House a mile or two up the road. There are lots of stores too! The only other disappointment with the hotel was the little store they have. It had a nice variety but the prices are beyond ridiculous!!!! A can of pringles is almost $5. The pool was nice and heated. They provide towels by the pool. The entire staff was very friendly and the breakfast buffet was great. It was cheaper than going to McDonalds and definitely cheaper than even a pretzel at Universal. I would love to stay at this hotel again but unless they change the beds and pillows I can’t. Again if you like or don’t mind a firm mattress don’t hesitate to book this hotel!

Exceptional 10.0
Clean, good location, great amenities, super staff
Our room was nice and clean. NO BED BUGS, too! Beds were comfortable and nicely made - extra pillows! Plenty of towels. Staff was great and quick at check in. Rooms were pretty quiet - did not hear next door neighbors - but could hear room doors opening and closing from our room door (wish the room doors were better sound insulated - but acceptable). Room had very clean fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and hair drier. Tub and bathroom spic and span. Updated shower easy to get to perfect temp and had wonderful pressure. Tub was bubble bath ready - nice soaking depth. Pool was not heated, but was still wonderful and clean and big. Pool towels provided, too. Pool is supposed to close at 10pm, but we swam until almost 11pm, and no one chased us out. There is a great bar (bartender made our kids shirley temples to go:). There are wonderful restaurants in the lobby. Also, check your Orlando coupon books if you stay here - there are coupons for $1 off the $7.95 all you can eat breakfast buffet (can be used for everyone in your party - better deals if your kids are 9 or under). There is laundry, a great exercise room, an expansive arcade with toy cranes++, a great mini mart with nice selection of food, tourist items like shirts and cups, and drinks - no need to drive to a quickie mart. The staff was so interactive and friendly. You didn't have to look for help, they were always right there coming to you. Parking was good, too. So pleased with this hotel. Glad I trusted the reviews.

Nice room, avoid the restaurant, close to Universa
The room was very nice and clean and fit the bill for a two night stay for a quick visit to Universal. The hotel is approximately 1 mile from Universal so it was very convenient. They offer shuttles, but we did not ride them. However, the room I was given was not in the building pictured. I was placed in a 4 level building next to this one that has room entry on the outside of the building. I just want everyone to be sure they know that you may or may not be placed in the tall building pictured. It was kind of strange and I'm not sure if we were placed here because we reserved through or what. Did not feel as secure as I was expecting. The security gate/guard made the hiccup more comforting, especially as there were only two young females in my party, but it was still shocking. The hotel gives coupons to visit the Japanese restaurant on-site, but my best advice would be to eat elsewhere. Essentially, they tend to have 1 chef and we were told he would simultaneously cook for two tables but he cooked for the other table and let our food burn. They offered no compensation except free dessert and still charged us an 18% gratuity for a party of 2 and did not advertise this charge! Not worth it!! Which is sad because it could be nice. I would possibly book a room here again, but I will avoid the restaurant!

Exceptional 10.0
Very serviceable and good experience overall
I felt that I got quite a lot for my money with my stay at Rosen. I chose to stay with Rosen after extensive reading of TripAdvisor reviews, which were mostly favorable, though some complained about rooms being dated. My rooms (we had two) were not dated. The marquis outside mentioned a recent renovation, so perhaps this accounts for my experience. Rooms were clean, freshened up nicely by housekeeping, and included a mini frig. The property has a pool, but it is not a resort and I was not looking for such. This is an ideal property for people who want to be at the parks all day long and don't need/want to pay resort prices when they aren't going to have extensive time to use resort features, if at parks all day as my family was. The fairly extensive buffet breakfast at $7.95 is quite a deal, esp if including kids under 10, who ate for free. After being nickeled and dimed (in fact, gouged) at nearby Universal, an affordable but still good quality lodging experience was very welcome. This hotel is very close to universal, and runs a complimentary shuttle to the park in both morning and evening. The street where hotel Is located is very neon lights / touristy, but is super close to universal and near to a Whole Foods and the world's largest McDonald's on Sand Lake Road. We chose to drive in order to have flexible leave time from park, but still thought this was a great feature. I would recommend and would stay again.
