What I like : It faces the River Torrens, What I do not like : The security of the hotel. Guests are NOT required to scan their room cards in the lift ! That means anyone has access to guest rooms. On 20 March 2019 at 5.45pm, I was in the lift with my two sons, and two gentlemen. To my horror, I noticed one of the gentlemen holding a “Uber Eats” brown paper bag. He got out at Level 9, and turned right. He should have turned left as right faces the window. Obviously he did not know his way and he looked lost. Just then the lift door closed and we were on our way to Level 10, where we stayed. The previous week I stayed at The Playford McGallery. No such observations were made. We pay to stay in a good, reputable and safe hotel but I note with disappointment that InterContinental Adelaide has not given me this assurance. I sincerely hope that the hotel takes my feedback seriously as what I have observed is alarming. My family, friends and I will be visiting Adelaide regularly as our children are pursuing degree courses in the university. Suffice to say that it will be a long time before we stay at the InterContinental Adelaide again.

Good Hotel, very nice staff, needs noise control
The hotel needs to be properly cleaned overall. There are large areas where it has not been cleaned for a very long time, a couple of years. The hygiene cleaning in the dining room and Atrium are excellent, and I have no fault on that. Some of the decor is a little old and needs replacing/updating. But this is a little bit in the whole thing. The big minus, and it is a REALLY big minus, is the noise from the Casino. It starts at 9:30 pm and finishes any time between 1130 pm and 0330 am. Asking the Casino to turn down the volume doesn't always work, so even though I am on the 20th floor, the noise comes through the windows so loudly that it can be heard by people on the other end of the phone line. So, after 4 nights in a row of very little sleep, if I had not moved out that day because I was leaving, I would have left the hotel anyway. Which is a shame as it was a nice hotel. but the casino chose not to honour the request to turn down the noise and the Adelaide government does not enforce the noise pollution levels the way that they should. Big shame, as I would have stayed there again otherwise.

Very good 8.0
We stay here every year for our Ray White Annual Awards function and love it. This year on arrival however we were not greeted with even a sideways glance when we drove in. I actually don't even think we got a smile. We pulled in, opened our own doors, opened the boot of the car, removed all our luggage, then stood at the outside desk to have our car parked and waited there for 5 minutes before he even looked up at us. Then with a grunt our keys were sorted and we trudged inside with our large suitcase, smaller carry luggage and our suit and dress bags. Once checked in no one even bothered to offer with help to take our bags up? Wasn't the great service we usually get on arrival and it didnt even appear they were busy!

Price competition ...
The Intercontinental is a lovely full-service hotel in a nice location on the river-side of the Adelaide CBD. The furnishings are lovely but the doors, walls and fittings are showing signs of age. Adelaide is not a busy town. Occupancy rates on average are low and hotel prices are too high. As a general rule, there is a lot of room for price negotiation at this end of the market. It's good that travel sites like Expedia have helped make lower prices more visible ... but it's time for Expedia to exert some market muscle and buy rooms based on volume sales and pass them on at an even lower price. The ICH group has multiple hotel brands to help protect price. It's time to push through their game and get better value for consumers.

Celebrating our 20th Wedding Anniversary
We recently stayed at the InterContinental Hotel in Adelaide. We were celebrating our 20th Wedding Anniversary. We originally stayed here on our wedding night. We received a phone call from the staff at the hotel to see if required any assistance, a few days prior to check in. I thought that was a wonderful courtesy, to welcome us and i was able to check things over with them. When we arrived we were greeted cordially and our check i was smooth and easy. Our room was awesome. They managed to place us where i wanted in the hotel. The facilities were excellent. We were given a couple of free Cocktails to celebrate our 20th, which i thought was lovely. Breakfast was incredible and delicious. The staff were very friendly and accomodating. We thoroughly enjoyed our Anniversary and InterContinental, definitely were a part of our experience.
