Okay for the price paid
The Ilima was okay - pretty dated but mostly clean. I gave it an average rating for a couple of reasons: Firstly, I was told I had paid in full before arriving and was hit with a $15 a day amenities fee. This was not in any correspondence I received. I was told this was for the WiFi and the tea and coffee. How I am charged for the 'free' WiFi they advertise is a puzzle to me, especially when the connection dropped out every few minutes. Secondly, the parking is a bit of a nightmare. There were a couple of spare parks, but inconsiderate parkers had put their cars into two spaces with no other parks being free. I know this isn't the hotels fault. What is, though, is when we told the male desk attendant who was checking the car parking tags and his reply was, 'Well, if you hadn't already parked I would probably try to do something'. I thought this was pretty poor form considering he had just watched my husband struggle into the park for 5 minutes, could see the other car well over the line and watched my husband have to get out of the car through the passenger door, not to mention there was another car there over 2 car parks. They have everyone's registration and room number so it would have been good service to at least try and make it easier for us to reverse out the next day. On a positive note, the mountain view from our room was lovely and most of the hotel staff were very friendly. The desk staff when we checked in and the male attendant were all pretty ordinary.

Family Budget accommodation in Waikiki
We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment and the apartment also had a fold down double bed in the lounge room which was brilliant! The hotel is older style and our biggest disappointment would be having a DOUBLE bed and not a QUEEN. Just too small. The cooling in the apartment was a reverse cycle unit in each bedroom and one in the living area. They were low to the ground so very ineffective Also they were SO noisy. So if these things don't bother you then the ILIMA Hotel rates well. The location was great as we were very close to shopping- just two blocks from Kalakaua Avenue so ready access to fantastic shopping. We hired a car and had free parking which is one of the reasons why we wanted to book this hotel - you will pay US$25-$30 per day for parking at other hotels. Also in Waikiki all hotels and apartments charge resort fees per room per day. As a 2 bedroom apartment it was just US$15 per day - pay direct on arrival. Ilima Hotel also had a self service laundry and to pay just US$2.50 per load for a wash was great. Staff were always on hand 24 hours a day and held our bags when we arrived early- so we could go off exploring before check in. Recommend this hotel for the budget conscious family as Waikiki is not cheap to stay and this hotel offers savings in regards to free parking, low resort fee, free wifi and cheap laundry facilities.

Great but be careful which room you end up in!
I was on the 14th Floor facing ocean side very bright and comfortable. However until the International Market Place Complex is finished expect to hear a lot of noise. This had no reflection on the high standard of service provided by Ilema but at 4.am in the morning it's a bit much to be woken up by jack hammering!

Beware the Resort tax
Really annoying $15 Resort Tax. This is not a resort. it has a tiny gym with 2 machines, Tiny pool. Most motels offer better facilities free of charge. No breakfast or meal services. To top it off they charge $5 per half hour to use their computer to print boarding passes. Oh I for got the 70c per page for paper, also no shuttle
