About Hotel Riu Plaza The Gresham Dublin, Dublin, Ireland

Historic hotel with free WiFi in Dublin's O'Connell Street

By The Spire of Dublin

The 200-year old Riu Plaza The Gresham Dublin is a capital city landmark in its own right, located in the center of Dublin's O'Connell Street and a stroll from the River Liffey. It's a 30-minute drive from Dublin Airport, and easy to track down, with the 121-meter Millennium Spire steps away.

The GPO and Abbey Theater

O'Connell street is filled with culturally significant sites, such as the General Post Office, and The Abbey Theatre, founded by Irish poet W. B. Yeats. It's less than a 10-minute walk to reach other popular spots such as the Ha'penny Bridge, Temple Bar, and Grafton Street.

Whiskey lover's paradise

The hotel is home to Writer's Lounge Bar, plus Toddy's Bar & Brasserie, with one of the largest whiskey collections in the city. Riu Plaza The Gresham Dublin dazzles guests with original Waterford crystal chandeliers, and has secure car parking, plus room service on hand.

Free WiFi and cable

All 300 rooms are slightly different, but they all have features such as pillowtop beds, free WiFi, and flat-screen TVs with cable channels. Tea and coffee-making facilities are included, and some suites have balconies with stunning views of the city.

Did not Enjoy
Hotel is conveniently located on O'Connell Street, only a straight forward 10 min walk to Temple Bar/ Trinity Precincts. Hop on/off tourist bus stop located out the front door makes it easy for tourists to see Dublin. Entrance to the car park was a little discreet to find down a lane way. Lobby and lounge are beautiful and overall the hotel appeared quite clean and maintained. Our stay was spoiled by a broken A/C control which was stuck on high making the room very uncomfortable, we had to sleep with a blow fan provided by the hotel and the windows open (including curtains open providing no privacy as our room could be seen into by others). The heat was dreadfully uncomfortable to sleep in and I had to get up for a walk at 2am to find some water and fresh air. I am understanding that these things can happen, but there was very little in the way of an apology and the response was that we had to deal with it until they could change our room the following day (of a 2 night stay). I would expect more in the way of hospitality and service of a 4-star property. Particularly when you are paying for a premium. The second room did have a functioning A/C unit. The rooms were of decent size, clean and the decor was appealing. Shower was in a tub combination which may make accessibility difficult for some, though this may not be the case in all rooms, so I would check with hotel in advance if required. Parking was an additional charge at €17 per night.

Gorgeous old hotel, well refurbished EXCEPT, they put us in a disability access room after keeping us waiting on arrival (after check in time). The bathroom was huge with a tiny shower that opened up on two sides and leaked all over the bathroom, the bathroom sink was so small it was riduculous, I mean really really small and about 2 feet of the ground. My husband is 6 ft 2, and I am tall so it was difficult to reach! We fully understand that disability rooms are essential for any good hotel and serve an important function, and provide access to those less able. However, when we mentioned it to reception on check out, the attendant just said - don't know why they put you there! no apology or recognition of the inconvenience, and more importantly no acknowledgement that we had raised a safety issue. Poor
