I was looking for a really nice room for my wife and myself, after having spent a few very long days at work and to mark the start a a week long holiday on the gold coast with family.
Having scrolled through the choices on hotels.com I had decided to book what appeared to be the best room in the Brisbane Hilton for the night, rates starting there for about $389 for a delux room and going up in increments as the room description changed, until at the end came the description of Hilton executive king room with a price tag of $595 a night, thinking this must be a pretty special room given the price and description, so wanting to surprise my wife with a lovely room for the night I went and booked it.
My wife arrived there in the early afternoon whilst I was still finishing up at work.
I called and asked how the room was and she replied not very nice, quite dated and small.
I said they might have given you the wrong room and check at reception, she was told that all the rooms at the Hilton were pretty much the same and the only difference between the cheapest room and the executive king room was you had access to what they call there executive lounge between 6pm and 8pm for canapes and drinks and the room included breakfast.
When I arrived at about 6.30pm and walked into the room I couldn't believe I had paid almost $600 for this very ordinary, very basic room,
Then off to check out the lounge, very basic no better than a bad Qantas lounge like you find in Auckland or Wellington.
