Not a great experience
Disappointing hotel. Stairs between entry & reception a problem for person with limited mobility, not to mention lugging bags down & up stairs. Room was spacious but v tired & wifi totally hopeless. And no (zero) breakfast service available either. Would not stay there again, or recommend it.

Very convenient hotel for train station.
Very convenient place to stay as in town and very close to station so a short walk down to catch the Alaskan railway train. Our apartment was comfortable. We found the detailed list stating what we will be charged should we steal/ damage anything in the apartment quite strange. I presume the hotel has had a serious problem with theft but to list items like bedhead, curtains, mattress etc etc and the amount that will be charged to us if we steal them was distasteful. I sent a photo of the detailed list to friends around the world who all had a good laugh at the idea of us trying to board a flight with a queen size mattress, the bathroom mirror and the fridge/ freezer stuffed in to out suitcases!! No other hotel in Alaska did this. Why has this hotel got such a theft/ damage problem?? Elsewhere in the world I have seen items such as towels/ hairdryer itemised to discourage theft but no where to this hotels extent. As far as I could tell this hotel is not suitable for people who have mobility issues. To get to the reception and a level where there are lifts one has to go up and down a short flight of stairs. Seems a strange layout as one is forced to carry ones suitcases up and down to lift level. and to check in.Perhaps there were other easier ways to access building other than the front door of hotel but for anyone with mobility problems I'd check first with hotel.

Nice Stay for a Few Days
My sister and I stayed here for a few nights in early February while we spent a few days checking out Anchorage and its surrounds. We found it's location in downtown fairly ideal for the price. It was walking distance to some great brew pubs, the tourist information, parks building, shopping mall, and the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail starts really close by. The room was spacious and clean, and even had a kitchenette if you wanted to cook your own meals. The supplied breakfast was simple but good, some yoghurt, granola bar, porridge and a juice pouch, delivered to your door overnight. My only real complaint was the wifi, the reception was patchy at best and constantly kept dropping in and out. A cab to/from the airport was around $20. Overall though, I'd stay here again if I was in Anchorage for a few days.

The hotel room was quite large but the lack of air conditioning meant we had to keep the windows open and and the local area and trains are quite noisy thorughout the night.

Anyone with disabilities and a service dog beware
We were traveling with our service dog and had planned to stay for 8 nights. They kicked us out after the 2cd night saying it barked. Yes it did bark when the maid came to the door. My husband is very hard of hearing and the dog is trained to alert him when someone comes to the door. We had to find another place to stay at the last minute. They wouldn't even give us a receipt when we checked out saying the manager had to do it (he wasn't there). When we finally got one emailed to us they had added an additional $80.00 to the bill for cleaning. They had not disclosed that there would be an additional charge. Very poor on their part.

Cool old school hotel
Cool old school hotel! Our room was more like a studio apartment & the bed was super comfy. We’ll definitely be back to spend more time in Anchorage & plant to make the Grand Hotel our home base

Quick walk to the railroad depot
THE place to stay if you ride the railroad. Easy 5 minute walk to and from the station. Lots of great places to eat nearby. We had a great stay and will come back in the future!

Was good hotel but cold in the room

I enjoyed my stay. The room was very nice. The staff was very nice and helpful. The only thing that really bothered me was the Alaska Railroad yard is literally right behind the hotel and the engineers are honking their extremely loud train horns all night long and into the early hours of the morning. I suggest if you want to get any sleep request a room facing 2nd avenue )))
