You get what you pay for
I seldom stay below a 3 star hotel so maybe my expectations are different. The check in staff left at 5 but I arrived at 7, so I emailed the staff in advance to arrange . The staffs that were there to check me in did not speak English. Did not know who I was or that I had a reservation. Assigned me to a different room than what was previously communicated to me. Checked in the room is a lot smaller than shown in pictures. Pool looks dirty. Towel had stains. No hair dryer. Did not give us the key to the safe so we ended up have to swap room . The shower water was leaking out from the room next to us. It was disgusting. Imagine stepping on someone else’s shower water.

Had a couple of minor things that were taking care of WiFi was not that great and A faint smell of mildew overall the place was very comfortable very nice setting close by to the center of town as I had a car to move around would not mind going back again

BUYER BEWARE! STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS! If I could give negative stars I would!! My boyfriend and I booked our stay at Hotel Barro Negro from December 29th, 2019 - January 10, 2020. We planned to stay at the hotel for 2 weeks during the music festival & were looking for a place we could go back to & just relax after long days at the beach and attending the music events. The rooms are basic at best & all have smart TVs, which was fine since we really just wanted to be able to watch a movie at the end of the night to wind down. The internet worked for about 30 minutes & then went down. After 2 days of no internet & not being able to use the TV & hearing several other hotel guests complain of the same issues we asked if we could be let out of our reservation. They came to us with a resolution & said they could let us out of our reservation & we were promised a refund for the remaining 12 days of our stay in the amount of approximately $1200 USD. We spoke with management & they were to refund us within 10-12 business days. We were happy to find a resolution & booked an Airbnb that better fit our needs. We checked out & moved to the Airbnb. After a couple of weeks & no refund we contacted the hotel to find the management was no longer with the hotel. We have since contacted the hotel several times & they have changed management several times. The hotel doesn't respond to emails, doesn't answer the phone & customer service is horrendous. DON'T WASTE YOUR $

Overbooked NYE Disaster
We arrived at 3.00pm on New Years Eve to be told they did not have our reservation. There was no explanation given, just that our reservation had disappeared from their booking system. The receptionist blamed the booking agent and Hotels.com. After a lot of repetitive chat w booking agent, she advised we call Hotels.com. Our friends were also supposed to stay at the hotel & booked directly through their website. Their reservation had also magically disappeared from their system. Again, there was a lot of back and forth with the illusive booking agent who we later found out was located in Miami. The receptionist then told us that it had been happening all week!! There was a least two other couples who this also happened to on New Years Eve. Luckily Hotels.com were able to relocate us after a long & expensive call at my own cost 3+ hours later. My friends didn't have as much luck and were bounced around from place to place after numerous phone calls & a lot of resistance on the booking agent's behalf. The receptionist also told us it was her first week on the job, she had no access to any reservations on the computer & that she called the manager/boss & they would not come back. It was a very unfair situation for her and handled very unprofessionally on the whole. For the duration we were there (over 4 hours) we had to use the staff toilet which was an unfinished smelly toilet in the storage room. Very unfair for the staff to use when they advertise nice modern guest rooms.

The three ladies at the front desk were wonderful. However, checking was not smooth. Were were given the wrong room and once that was resolved moved several times. Not all rooms have TVs. The WiFi was terrible. We could do anything on the internet or stream anything on the TV. No local channels were available. We could not get the temperature in the room adjusted properly or get the humidity out of the room. Nothing would dry even after days of hanging it to dry. One hairdryer and iron for the entire hotel. When we got the hairdryer back from another guest it was broken and staff did not provide a replacement. No ironing board for the iron. Continuous barking dogs next door made it hard to sleep. Hotel is on main road and traffic noise was very loud. On last day water began leaking into our room from the room next door flooding our room. Hotel staff were on holiday for January 1st and we could get no help. Toilet continually clogged, even though we followed instructions to not flush paper. One morning we had no water for several hours. Hotel is not near center of town, requiring us to take taxis. No amenities such as fridge, ice, or coffee maker. Instant coffee in lobby, but at times no hot water in pot or creamer. Saving grace was Gypsea Market and restaurant next door for food, coffee, etc. I cannot say enough positive things about the staff because they did do their best to assist us and they were as sweet as could be but it didn’t make up for all the negatives.
