About this cottage

Our cozy, kitschy cottage, decorated with an eclectic mix of antiques and Lowcountry artwork, it's about as far as you can get from a generic hotel room! At the heart of the historic district, spend your days shopping and dining without ever using your car. Get lost on the quaint side streets walking beneath the old oak trees. Play a game of tennis, go for a run, visit the playground. And just 20 short miles from historic Charleston and countless beaches. Whatever you're seeking, it's all here.

Our kitschy cottage is 'quaint' and 'charming' and 'full of character,' according to most of our guests. Nope, it’s nothing fancy. No high tech fittings, no automated smart house gadgets. Instead, you’ll find the things that we think truly help to make a house a home. Antiques and artwork collected over the years, bedding that wasn’t bought at Target, mismatched dishes pieced together over time…The wavy window panes are still here- heck, most of the windows are painted shut by now!- but don’t be fooled. We keep updating the space where we can while making sure to keep the charm that you’re looking for. Here, you’ll find antique pieces in just about every room of the house, but you’ll also new bamboo flooring, updated kitchen and bathrooms, complete with tiled floors and new shower units, new carpet in the bedrooms…The cottage has three large flatscreen TVs equipped with DirecTV, as well as high speed wireless Internet. In addition to two bedrooms, each with its own full bathroom, you'll find a fully-equipped and well-stocked kitchen, a spacious living room and a cozy sun porch filled with light. You'll find a traditional covered porch with Charleston bench and a rocking chair, as well as a deck surrounded by a picket-fenced yard. The cottage also has a private office workspace with desk and plenty of storage.

So whether you're in town for work or for play, this is your spot. Speaking of work, we've made every effort to make the space ideal for long term stays, not to mention our proximity to all the major businesses (Volvo, Boeing, Bosch, the Weapons Station, the old Navy Base...) If you have any questions about the specifics , please don't hesitate to ask!

Our kitschy cottage is located in Azalea Park, in the heart of Summerville's historic district, just a block from Town Square. Everything you need is within walking distance- shops, restaurants, coffee shops, walking paths, tennis courts, playgrounds, churches...There's even a farmer's market on Saturday mornings from spring through fall. All the charm, all the friendliness, all the character you've heard about...It's all true and it's all right here.

Just outside of town, you'll find all the famous plantations. Enjoy the short scenic drive to them and spend the day soaking up the fresh air, the gorgeous gardens and all the history they provide.

We're approximately a 5-minute drive from the interstate. From there, you're about 30 minutes from just about anywhere in the Lowcountry- historic Charleston, Mt. Pleasant, countless beaches...Summerville is the perfect 'gateway' to the entire Lowcountry!

We've done our best to provide as many brochures and as much information as possible when you arrive at the cottage. You'll find an entire section of the office dedicated to helpful area guides!

It means so much to us to think of guests enjoying our little historic gem as much as we do and we trust that you’ll help us keep it in great shape for years

to come. Please be sure to sign our guestbook before you leave.

Thank you so much for visiting!

*PLEASE NOTE OUR PET POLICY* We are happy to welcome up to 2 small pets (under 25 lbs) per reservation, provided they are house-trained and well-behaved, of course. NO EXCEPTIONS FOR LARGER BREEDS, there's no need to ask. The pet fee is $30/pet, per week (or less). Sometimes it can be tricky figuring out how to add this to your reservation, so just message us if that's the case and we can send a separate invoice. Thanks so much!

*PROPERTY IS EQUIPPED WITH A RING SECURITY SYSTEM. For the safety of our property and our guests, the Kitschy Cottage is equipped with a Ring Security System. This includes an exterior camera and an alarm system for the doors and windows.

*EXTENDED STAY CLEANING POLICY* We welcome long-term guests! For extended stays, we ask that our cleaning service clean the house every two weeks during your stay, at guests' expense. We do our best to schedule this on a day and time most convenient for you. This is done at a reduced rate of $75/cleaning and is paid directly to the cleaners at the time of service. Guests are welcome to stay or go during the service.

Erin and her daughter have a wonderful place for people to stay. The cottage was very clean and supplies everything and more you would need during your stay. My wife and I felt like we were in our own home and our hoping every-time we visit the Summerville area we will be able to stay at their lovely cottage. Great place for pets also!

    Beautiful cottage near Azalea Park

We really loved our stay at Kitschy Cottage. The location was perfect - in walking distance of shops, parks, historic district, and entertainment. We arrived just as spring was breaking out. The beautiful azaleas and magnolia were especially beautiful to us, who had just arrived from the depths of Maine winter. The cottage was very comfortable. The only thing we needed was a few runners because our standard poodle didn't like the bare wood hallways! The fenced in yard allowed him to watch the walkers and bird activity outside. The decor was so charming -- antiques, coordinated color schemes -- and the porch was a nice, bright place for my stitching projects. The only minor complaint was that the beds seemed a bit narrow for two people used to sleeping on queen size beds, rather than full size. We managed though because the mattresses were very comfortable. The fully equipped kitchen provided for every need, with the staples in the cabinets. The owners satisfied every request and a few suggestions that we made. In other words, if it hadn't been for Covid-19 which necessitated our departure a few weeks before 3/27, we would have been tempted to reserve again for next year. Many thanks to Robin and her family for our perfect winter escape!

    Cozy Quaint and Very Clean

My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. It was really cozy and clean. The pups loved it. Great communication with the owners. We also happened to catch a fun local Summerville Italian fair while we were there. The property is set back from the main road with a really cozy and safe walking trail to downtown where we got to experience the fair and buy some fun pumpkin and peanut dog cookies for our pups. :)

    Wonderful antique house

This property was a wonderful little place to stay. Getting into it is a little hard as it sits back off the road a bit. Erin gave great directions, unfortunately GPS brought us in from the opposite direction so it took us a little bit to get in. The house is very clean and comfortable. There is a fenced in little yard as we had our dogs with us, so this was nice. There is no light on the porch accessing the yard so letting them out at night was a little tricky but not a huge deal. We would gladly stay here again.
