Comfortable Older Hotel In Great Clifton Location
I should probably have said Classic rather than older in the title but you shouldn’t expect this to be a brand new hotel. Excellent breakfast, great staff and a real pub downstairs. The reception is comfortable, modern and has a nice little coffee bar. Downstairs there is a proper pub and restaurant, Racks, very popular with the locals who I am not sure even realize it is part of the hotel. They have separate entrances but if you aren’t into the sound of people in the street going home from the pub late at night it may not be your place. Having said that, this is Clifton, very different to the rest of Bristol and more like a village. The restaurant food is excellent and despite the liveliness the pub has a lot of cellar nooks and quiet seating areas. They also have good proper CAMRA beer, a lot of it local. The rooms are comfortable, mine had a balcony with a huge window, though only the street outside was visible. All the staff were very professional and attentive, particularly Dorotea and Marco the night guy, they sorted me out with recommendations and directions all the time. It’s a nice comfortable hotel, but it’s really a great location. Clifton is very walkable and the posh part of Bristol, despite being close enough to Downtown to walk there too. There are a lot of hidden gems that don’t advertise themselves, like just across the road from the hotel down an obscure street alongside the church is The Lido, not just a spa and swimming pool but also an excellent restaura

Baked then boiled!
On arrival we waited 5 mins at reception before anyone turned up. Finally a scruffy, smelly member of staff turned up, attempted to charge us for the room when though we'd already paid, was clueless about parking and then sent us to the wrong room. After another 5 minute wait at reception, the same member of staff gave us a different room saying it was currently very hot due to being 'at the front of the building'. It turned out, this room was unbearably hot, not because of sun, but because it had permanently boiling pipes running under the floor, so it never cooled down. No sleep that night. We managed to get moved to another room the next day, by the markedly cleaner and more efficient staff. Unfortunately, this room had a mysterious lack of cold water. Every tap produced water we could have made tea with! So a very difficult shower in the morning! Aside from these problems, neither of the rooms were cleaned properly. Also they were very small - particularly the bathrooms (which were shower rooms) - considering they were advertised as 'executive king'. And on that subject, I would also like to point out that simply putting two single beds next to eachother does not magically transform them into a king size bed!

The rotten fruit hotel
We arrived at the hotel only to find we had to pay £6.50 to park . We collected our key to the room . Upon opening the door we were shocked to see twin beds in a room that could only be described as a bed sit . There was a bowl of fruit with a card saying " Eat Me " . I chose the tangerine only to find it was rotten underneath . I immediately went to reception to complain . They informed me the Manager would speak to me in a minute . 15 minutes I waited . I explained that the room was sub standard to what was advertised on their web site . He informed me that they were going to carry out a refurbishment program later in the year . I mentioned that the fruit had gone off . He apologized and said fruit was put into the rooms on a daily basis . I explained that my wife as I were unhappy with the standard of the hotel and fruit that was presented on arrival . I asked for a refund . He agreed and said the money would be put back on my wife's card within a couple of days . It has now been 11 days since this was confirmed and we have still not received a refund .

Great price and location but some inconveniences
Great price for the area, at first glance the room was great and was very comfy. The location was fantastic......but.... The hot water was warm at best, couldn't have a bath or shower comfortably. From the bath you could see the toilet rim which was not clean unless you were standing directly over it. I appreciate also that parking in bristol is a nightmare but when a hotel offers parking, you expect to be able to park! Turned up at 4 and the car park was full (luckily there is cheap parking on the street if there's a gap). I was told to check back at 530 when staff who use the car park had left. There was still no space then so they sent me to a sister hotel (the washington) down the street to park, even arranged it over the phone for me. Parked there, went to pay and a rude receptionist told me there wasn't enough spaces, even though I was already there with at least 3 more spaces and no reservation possible! After some back and fro she let me stay, charged me £7 but refused to take cash, who refuses cash?! Despite all of this I would stay there again due to the convenient location and the comfiest bed in any hotel I've stayed at!

Noisette
On arrival room not cleaned from previous occupant another room found but had to step down into bathroom, difficult after knee op 1 month ago some staff knowledgable others didn't recognise us after 3 day stay. Linen and towels looked grubby, although room cleaned well each day not aware of car park charges or the distance to the car park. Although this site says not pet friendly it was a good job it was or we would have gone elswhere as we could not have left our dog in the car overnight so far from where we were. Says it is a green hotel wanting to cut down on water usage but took 7 mins for cold whb to run cold as pipes under floor appeared to be next to hot ones. Room over kitchen so very hot, woken on 1st morning by refuse collection at 04.45 and subsequent mornings at 06.00 by either hotel or refuse collection staff or both. Restaurant although franchised very expensive for drinks and menu offered only 2 items which could be guarenteed garlic free because of an allergy. The fire doors were poorly fitted and our bedroom door had large gaps all round and was so heavy the door closer was pulling the frame head apart, no suitable handicapped access. No TV during stay as broken and promises of fixing it were not kept.. All in all not a good stay and not to be reccomended, even after a slight price reduction of car parling fees
