Great hotel both where’s the hair dryer!?
Perfect hotel in perfect location. A bit pricey but that’s how these hotels go in downtown Charleston. One strange thing however, there was no hair dryer in the room. Wife got a bit outraged when we needed to call down for one that took a second call to remind them and my wife declaring we needed to leave for a reservation in 10 minutes. Hair dryer did arrival but seemed very odd for such a nice hotel not to have one in the room!

4/10 Fair

When booking this hotel , I wanted something in a good location and with lots of amenities. The hotel is under construction and I wasn’t aware of that. It was disappointing to pay 1500 for just a room and nothing else. It was inconvenient to have no ice machines, vending machines, etc. We stayed for 4 nights and it was our anniversary trip so we wanted to splurge and enjoy it so it was disappointing to not get what the pictures showed online. Our 2nd we got a letter that they were shutting the water off from 11:30-5am so that was a bummer. Overall it was a great location close to everything.

2/10 Poor

Under MAJOR Construction!!
This place should not be taking reservations. We flew across the country and were completely disappointed. First, we parked in the parking garage behind the hotel and followed the signs to the guest entrance bridge from the garage. When we got to the bridge it was covered in rolls of old carpet and construction equipment. We wondered around looking for a way to get to the reception area from there and ended up in gutted guestrooms and an elevator that didn't work. We finally had to leave, go through the garage down to street level and into the front. When I ask the man at reception about the entrance he told me that you can't get into the hotel from there right now. A sign would have been nice so we weren't walking through an active construction site. I told the very nice men at the front desk I was uncomfortable staying in all the construction and they called their sister hotel to try to get us a room but they were full. I started to get nervous we wouldn't have a room at all so we decided we would stay. When we got to our room all we could hear was workers grinding the cement on the pool, it was terribly loud and annoying. We immediately left and the front desk asked for my personal information to have the manager refund the room since we decided not to stay. We finally found a hotel with room (last minute) for us which was a couple hundred dollars more than the Millshouse. I would have never booked here if I had known.

Under Renovation
Nice hotel very nice staff but was under renovation which limited the options and comfort of a full service hotel stay, pool, room service, restaurant etc.

6/10 Good

Maybe 3 Stars...
Long story short, the hotel is pretty and they have the Black Door cafe which is SO good....unfortunately we did not have a good time. Renovations have been going on for a while now so majority of the hotel you cant enjoy. They also start working as early as 7am...and it was LOUD. We woke up to either people working or kids screaming and running up and down our hallway. As for the parking situation, we paid a lot of money to stay in this hotel and with all the renovations going on they might offer free parking at elast in the parking garage behind the hotel but nope. We also barely made it to our dinner reservation due to waiting 15 min for our jeep to be brought to us even though we let them know in advance. Also due to renovations, we had no water at all at night...literally water was shut off. We were there for my boyfriend's birthday so i had the room all set up for him and i asked the front desk to not have them come in and clean the room, he said he would inform them but when we came back to the room it was all cleaned up. I was NOT happy. The AC...terrible. We had it sent on 65 and we woke up burning up every night. All in all, very disappointed and for the money we paid I could have stayed somewhere much nicer and much quieter...and most oikely for a much lower price.
