The only thing I can say that I liked was the water view and even that wasn't a full sea view - across from RSL who had their Air Con on 24/7 therefore the noise was too much to have our door open during the night. 1. Pillows/Cases/Towels smelled of dampness 2. Safe battery was low and needed to be replaced - reception gave the impression they were aware of that issue 3. Door handle came off in my hand, trapped in room while my husband tried to fit it back on and open the door 4. Cosmetically the room was quite clean however very aged and in dire need of a fresh up on the paintwork. 5. Torn net curtain which had been mentioned in a review dated Jan 2019 for same room - wasn't fixed by end August. 6. Dust on smoke detector/paint cracked on air con vent/bed head dirty in need of good clean and polish 7. Bath had a large chip on it and had been tried to fill in - you could feel the difference and was quick cautious not to stand anywhere need where water outlet was for fear of a foot going through it. No slip mat - slipped while getting into shower as it is over back and have a nice bruise on my knee to show for that. 8. Middle lift had been washed with a very smelly mop 2 days before our departure (smelled of vomit) and took them 2 days to clean it - was disgusting. Sad to say this 2.5 going on 3 for me, this is the worst hotel I have stayed in. There are many other nice properties around for same or less value, look further than Double Tree, such a letdown

Not really a DoubleTree by Hilton, but still nice.
DoubleTree by Hilton has an impression of being a 5-star brand hotel (i.e., a 'wow' hotel), but this wasn't a 5-star hotel. My family members all had different views. We got two king size bedrooms with balconies and ocean view.We stayed for four night and five days. Although one room wasn't a complete ocean view. You had to tilt your head in the direction of the ocean to see it. They shouldn't call that an ocean view; it was more city and mountain view (yet, I paid extra for ocean view). It has a nice middle tropical pond with fish, which you walk around to get from back to front. We liked the shape of the hotel; it was unique. The outside hallways reminded us of Hawaii, since they have buildings like that. We got balconies since we wanted it to seem like we were outside in the fresh air. In my parents room, the cleaning staff didn't clean properly or everyday. There was some string left from clothing, and it was never cleaned up. So, my parents told the manager and he listened without being defensive or making excuses. Sometimes there weren't coffee cups, coffee pods, spoons, etc. in the room, so I called for something each day.They were polite on the phone, and would deliver the items quickly (within 30 min.). Our room didn't have a corkscrew with a knife, but my parents had one (and used it to cut fruit, muffins, etc.). Just little things that can be improved upon. The staff were very friendly. I noticed that sometimes I would call the Careline and get Reception.

Well located, within easy walking distance to reef fleet terminal, cairns train station, and cairns night market. Definitely did not need a rental car as most tours will pick you up from such a central location, and there are an abundance of food options. Staff was very responsive and helpful. The rooms and bathroom are on the small side, and the mirror was quite dirty (maybe mold behind the glass? Couldn’t wipe it off) in our room, but otherwise rooms were well kept with comfortable beds

Mutton Dressed As Lamb
The hotel is put simply tired. Efforts have been made to modernise the rooms but look closely and you can see the peeling paint and the marked bathrobes. Outdoor hallway access to your rooms means getting wet in the rain and a constant cacophony of cleaning carts, rooms service trolleys and guests. The air conditioning seemed to have no middle ground you were either too hot or too cold - an old fashioned thermostat knob is used for control. The bar fridge is empty, requiring you to order from room service or go the bottleshop to grab a beer in your room. The bathroom is very dated. Due to the heavy rain I chose to spend my first night watching a $20 movie on 22' screen, which being further from the bed meant if I had used my mobile phone the screen would have been a larger viewing experience. My room service experience was poor, the food was cold and not very enjoyable. The in room breakfast I organised for a specific timeframe did not arrive and when I followed up, they had misplaced the order (which I had handed to the server the previous night). They provided me a totally uninspiring breakfast of barely cooked fried eggs and bacon that lacked any colour or taste. They did provide this breakfast gratis due to the issue, which i appreciated. I would much prefer to have breakfast on time and of better quality. I did not eat again at the hotel. I did provide them feedback which they took graciously and they also did not charge me for the room service.

I give the staff /service an average rating. Not because of any problem with staff efforts its just everything in Australia is understaffed due to high wages. Everywhere you go you have to wait because one staff is tasked with 3 or 4 duties at once. A common problem in Australia's service industry. From banks to restaurants to hotels.
