Profile: Financial District

Profile: Financial District

The Financial district is quiet after 5 pm and on the weekends, when it’s been left to its own devices and the shadows of the skyscrapers crawl across the sleepy sidewalks, but during the week it’s packed with food trucks, kiosks, and restaurants catering to power-lunchers. Tadich Grill is California’s oldest restaurant, a popular venue slinging seafood with no reservations needed.

Discerning shoppers should check out the upmarket Crocker Galleria, while comedy lovers can laugh themselves hoarse at the Punch Line Comedy Club, which has hosted Robin Williams and Chris Rock.

    Unfortunate experience

Horrible stay - no bell staff, no amenities in rooms, tv wasn't working and technicians unavailable. Manager also not available to speak to - requested follow up to no avail. Unfortunate experience all around, I will not be staying here again.

Very nice hotel ... the bar closes early for an international hotel; many people were irate about the time but more so with the staff that were very flippant. Will not go back irrespective of the location.

    A shinny POS!

The hotel was a polished POS. Old hotel with a little updated lobby. Good price for SF. The staff didn’t let us use the bathroom when we picked our bags up from hotel.

    It wasn’t all bad, but…

To be fair, it’s a nice hotel that could use some updating. The lobby was cool. The rooms are incredibly basic! This place was probably the talk of San Francisco in the 70’s, 80’s, and early 90’s. Expect to pay premium rates for average service at best. Nothing to write home about because nothing was amazing. Only thing that will blow you away is how much they overcharge for everything. We could have stayed somewhere else and had the same experience for half the cost. I don’t mind spending when I can see where my money is going. I left this place feeling like someone took money out of my wallet and smiled in my face. I guess you live and you learn.

    Interesting Stay

4/5. Heart of the Financial District in SF. The Good: The architecture of this building is fascinating, to say the least. The arrangement of each separate floor made us feel like we in the middle of a pyramid. Initial impression of our room was positive, and the balcony view out to the bay is breathtaking. Amenities are great, as well, and a 10% discount to the nearby Harborview restaurant is pretty cool. Location of hotel is extremely convenient. The Bad: Not sure if it was specific to our room but our climate control system was loud… louder than we’d expect of a hotel of this caliber. The hotel has hundreds of rooms, but only 5 elevators (located in one singular area) to service a building that spans more than 12+ floors. As such, waiting for an elevator is a hassle - especially with the hotel rule that only 4 occupants travel at a time. What’s worse, one of the elevators went down for a few hours on a Saturday morning. So that was fun… We also experienced an evacuation drill in the middle of the night when someone decided to set off the fire alarm. The alarm itself wasn’t as disconcerting as how it was handled by hotel staff. If I could describe it in one word, I’d describe it as “amateurish”. Communication was sorely lacking. And when it was revealed that it was a false alarm, there was little to no attempt at making sure guests got back to their rooms okay. Again, surprising for a hotel of this caliber. We may stay here again, we might not.

    Great except the elevators

This Place is amazing. From the modern bar with 6 big screens to the huge atrium with many places to chill this Hyatt has class and style. As a kid I remember watching High Anxiety a Mel Brooks film from the 70s And I always remembered the famous elevators of this Hyatt that was filmed here many years ago and now comes my only gripe with this Hyatt. Long story short my wife and I often found ourselves waiting for an elevator that wasn’t over packed, during COVID the capacity calls for 6 but for 15 minutes elevator after elevator stopped at our lower floor with 8-10 people packed into these tiny elevators with no stair option. We used the fire escape to leave after waiting 20 minutes on our way to check out. Our arms were full of luggage etc. and we had to use stairs marked No Reentry. We took our chances and found families with babies trying to make the same move we were making down the fire stairs. That part sucked! We weren’t the only ones feeling trapped. As we emerged in the lobby we all celebrated a sigh of relief drawing the attention of the 50+ people waiting for an elevator up. Good luck. Other than that the place is amazing.
