Good stay made better with great guest relations
While the stay didnt start off very positively with some miscommunication during check-in, the overall experience turned for the better with the staff's committment to improve it. I am grateful that instead of brushing my feedback off with an apology, the staff made it a point to resolve the problems I had on that day. I think a good hotel is determined not only by what it provides but how they provide it. I want to thank Ms Mariam for coming forward to patiently listen and rectify. She dealt with the situation at hand with much professionalism in spite of the fact that I was upset. Surprisingly, Ms Eddy from Guest Relations also called a few days later to personally address my feedback instead of just emailing. All these gestures add a human element to good guest relationship and service. I know at least that the staff cared that the guests leave happily. The personal touches from both ladies were very much appreciated. Of course, the hotel itself is well situated in the centre of town with the train just conveniently below. Good work on the updates on amenities and overall modern touch to the hotel. Great panaromic view if you choose the harbour views. Would gladly be back for another stay sometime soon! Thank you

Poor
I searched for hotel for 9 August to watch the ndp. A very affordable one came up indicating city view. And I proceeded to book. The booking does not allow for cancellation. After booking a confirmation email came stating on National Day the rooms would not be city view. On the phone with the hotel reservation dept, the staff replied it may be facing the pool and city view can be anywhere. I found that to be totally misleading. And several times with diff staff over the phone, they kept telling me that it wouldn’t be so cheap if it’s a view of the city which would be able to glimpse over the Padang. When ask for definition of city view since as advertised, they mentioned could be any direction in Singapore and not necessarily facing the cbd. On the day of checking in, the staff doing the registration even condescendingly told me with a smirk that to face the city it wouldn’t be so cheap and it would be at least a thousand dollars per night. All the staff mentioned the hotel had no responsibility since it was booked thru third party like hotel.com. I rejected on the excuses on matter of principle. I wasn’t trying to be cheap when I saw such good rates. In fact I was so surprised, I thought I might hve keyed in the wrong date or that ndp wasn’t at Padang. Immediately, I even told friends and relatives of the deal so that they could book, which I thought was an early bird deal before I received the email. Each time after challenging the staff statements, they try ameliorating...

Exceptional
Overall superb I love this hotel. Pros Hotel fantastic, doormen exceptional. Location amazing, doormen should be promoted. Better face of hotel than concierge / annoying unhelpful check-in assistants. Amazing views, way better than the big wheel. Love love love having a balcony. Cons Check-in now online at a computer screen which is fine but unexpected and we were disorganised at arrival due to unwell child. Hard to use screen and hold a vomit bag. Tried to call concierge, had to explain my query to two people before I could get through. Frustrating. Money changing machine at hotel did not recognise new AUD50. Needs to be upgraded if this is the option for guests. Consequently hard to change money easily, couldn’t find local money changer at Raffles market. Couldn’t find fan in bathroom consequently bathroom fogged up for every shower.

Newly renovated but did not fully meet our needs
We previously stayed at this hotel over the years but drifted away because it was dated. We tried it last week to see what the new renovations looked like. While the room was freshly decorated etc, it missed the mark as to which segment of the travelling market that the hotel is targeting. It was minimalist in design (European approach) and provided a simple table *with no chair) next to a low couch. Not suited for business travellers who want to do some work or catch up with HO at night. My wife was with me and she disliked the vanity in the bathroom. Instead of optimising the limited bench space, the designer (obviously young and not travelled regularly) put in a big wooden box to house toiletries and hand towels. Whereas my wife needed bench space for her wide array of make up items. And we hated the fancy electronic light switches and system. We had to find our glasses and read the instructions before we fully understood what the switches did. I travelled all over the world. All I want, is a simple on off switches for various lights. If I have to read instruction book, than the designer has failed.....or the hotel is not meeting my needs and I should not be there. So, if you love the location of the hotel (which is great), is young and do not need to do any work on a laptop in your room, tech savvy and understand all these fancy overkill light switches, this is the hotel for you. Room aside, the staff was friendly and very helpful, especially the house keeper.

Very good
Staff were helpful and service was prompt! Rooms were clean and up to standards. All the facilities were on point and available. When it went wrong, they acted fast to rectify and even gave a small gift to say sorry. Fully pleased with the service. I paid for the breakfast. Was'nt impressed by the breakfast though. The food quality was mediocre for what I paid. Whilst there was a vast selection of foods and choices, it seemed there was a use of mediocre ingredients, which led to mediocre food quality. Some food was also quiet bland, most notably the Indian food selection. The sweet pastries were quite firm, which is definitely not how fresh pastries should be, and fresh pastries is what's expected at buffets like these. The coffee was great though! O stall, the breakfast leaves alot to be desired.
