8/10 Very good

This was a one night stopover on our way south. The initial reaction is "Wow!" and entering the chateau it is no less impressive. The public areas are clean and well maintained and the room spotless, comfortable and spacious, if a little quirky but with amazing views. The Château is being renovated (slowly) but this is a mammoth job and only a fraction has been completed.
Kevin, the owner's son, was exceptionally welcoming and informative but neither he nor his parents live on site so we were handed the keys and told to ring if we needed anything. As there were no other guests we had the place to ourselves which was great. That night we had a monumental
2 hour thunderstorm which gave the place more of a gothic ambience but also caused five large bats to take refuge in the bedroom, flying around the ceiling, and it took us a while to persuade them to leave. Looking at the windowsill the next morning it appears they regularly roost there so steps could have been taken to prevent that. Kevin reappeared at breakfast which was good. The only other point of note is the app description stated tea and coffee making facilities available in the room when this is not the case. We asked Kevin and he produced a kettle from somewhere and some tea and coffee but appeared slightly surprised at the request.
I can't give it as high a score as shown on the app because you're just a bit too left to your own devices but it's worth considering, especially if you're a chiropterologist!
