    Magasin, which is a chain of department stores, was founded in Aarhus in 1868. The department store in Aarhus has been by the river, in the heart of the City of Smiles, since 1871.     Bazaar West (Bazar Vest)

    An exotic world with an oriental twist in the largest bazaar in the North

    Bazaar West (Bazar Vest) opened in 1996 in the western part of Aarhus, and with its 110 stalls, it spreads out over an area of around 215,000 square feet, making it the largest bazaar in the Nordic countries. Step into a world of different flavours and exotic scents, and let yourself be tempted by the exciting gift shops, the large selection of meat at the butcher’s department or the huge, fresh selection of different fruits and vegetables at the vegetable department.

    When you are done browsing in the small indoor alleys, you should visit one of the many oriental eateries, where you can enjoy delicious hummus and haydari, warm flat bread, olives stuffed with almonds and perfectly-prepared meat on a skewer.

    Go shopping on Denmark’s most visited walking street

    The Aarhus walking street is also popularly called “Strøget”, and it extends from the Central Station (Hovedbanegården) and the shopping centre Bruun’s Gallery (Bruuns Galleri) on one end to Skt. Clemens Bro by the river and Aarhus Cathedral (Aarhus Domkirke) at the other end.

    Strøget is Denmark’s most visited walking street, and with nearly 150 shops and eateries, it is the perfect place to shop in the City of Smiles. In the middle of this 850-metre long stretch, you can find the department store Salling, which offers even more shopping options should you need them.

    The Latin Quarter (Latinerkvarteret)

    Experience a very special atmosphere in the oldest neighbourhood in Aarhus

    The Latin Quarter (Latinerkvarteret) is a cosy area known especially for its narrow cobblestone streets and small, colourful houses. Actually, the Latin Quarter is the oldest remaining neighbourhood in Aarhus, and some of its buildings can even be dated back to the 17th century. The shops in the beautiful, charming streets are full of different and unique products.

    However, the Latin Quarter has more to offer than just shops. For example, visit one of the cosy cafés and restaurants at Pustervig Torv or treat your taste buds at one of Mejlgade’s many budget-friendly restaurants. You can also find a small cinema that shows unusual niche movies.

    Viby Centre (Viby Centret)

    Shopping under a distinctive glass pyramid

    Viby Centre (Viby Centret) is in the district of Viby, south of Aarhus centre. The shopping centre was established in 1970, and it attracts more than two million visitors every year. It is easy to spot the centre since it is located under a glass pyramid by the heavily-trafficked Viby intersection. Under this distinctive pyramid, you will find 36 different special shops, including clothing and shoe shops, a post office, pharmacy and a large supermarket.

    It is easy to get to Viby Centre. You can take seven different bus lines from Aarhus centre, and if you come by car, there is an underground car park with 500 parking spaces.

    Veri Center

    Visit Jutland’s first shopping centre

    Veri Center is on the northern side of the border between Vejlby and Risskov, two districts of Aarhus (the name Veri is derived from Vejlby and Risskov). With its 25 shops and three supermarkets, this small and cosy shopping centre offers all the essentials. Here, you can find everything from florists, cheese shops and home-made Italian ice cream to shoe and clothes shops, opticians and book stores.

    Veri Center’s history is quite special since the centre, which was founded in 1969, is Jutland’s first true shopping centre. Today, it is a popular place with lots of charm and character.

    Storcenter Nord

    Over 60 shops, a huge playland and 1,000 free parking spaces

    Nearly two kilometres to the north-west of Aarhus centre, you can find Storcenter Nord, with more than 60 specialty shops, 1,000 free parking spaces and a playland, which span several storeys. This modern shopping centre is ideal for shopping with the whole family. Among the many different shops, you will find clothing and shoes for men, women, teenagers and children, books, bags, jewellery, electronics and so much more.

    If you need a break, you can drop by one of the many eateries, which offer everything from Asian to Italian food. While you are relaxing, the children can have fun in the centre’s free playland.
