Outrigger Stay
I stayed with family under their reservations most of the days but also booked part of it myself.
Changing rooms, rentals cars, etc was all really convenient. Staff always let us park temporarily and helped us stay in the same room/manage multiple bookings.
Also had some free activities and discounts for others. Great place to stay, especially if you fly in/out of the Kona airport.

The outrigger, previously a Sheraton, is an ageing property that needs some work. The architecture and design of the facility are exceptional. The ocean views and location over the manta ray bay are pure Kona. The facility has a large water slide facing the ocean views with a sand pool, lots for kids to do. A convenient bar & grill menu provides very good food and drinks. A completely separate adult pool is quiet and romantic and makes for easy reading. The only downside currently is a wave damaged restaurant and closed bar. Losing the ocean front dining and views is a big miss. Locals crowd the kiddie pool during the weekends so timing of your visit can make a big difference in your experience. Staff moral ran 50/50. Some were definitely not happy to be working there while others were wonderfully nice. This was our third visit to the property. The easy trip into Kailua-Kona makes this a great place to stay when the restaurant reopens.

If you plan on staying the entire time at this resort and not leaving then you chose the right spot. If you plan on exploring the island I would recommend another resort as the walk from the parking lot to our hotel room was a 10 minute walk! The parking was $25 per day and very inconvenient to our room as we had a very long walk. Valet parking is $35 per day. The room was very basic as it only had a tiny mini fridge and Keurig machine. We tried finding a microwave and they charged us $10 a day for it, they did however deliver it up to our hotel room but come on $10 to microwave some popcorn! I tried doing a load of laundry and every floor was out of laundry soap, the front desk said they were completely out of stock so I just ran a cycle with water. The first dryer I tried using ate $4 and did not work. Overall, if you plan to stay at the resort and not leave then this is a nice place but if you plan on exploring the island I would recommend another hotel as the walking and carrying things to and from our car was very inconvenient especially after paying $25 per day!

The one restaurant was weird. The property was old and lacked any energy or personality. I know it is on an island but my friends room had a ton of roaches. Not what I was expecting at all.

The pool area was great for kids - but there was very limited service at the pool. The rooms were a good size but we kept finding ants all over the place and I work up one morning to some in the bed. The area around the hotel is nice.
