10/10 Exceptional

Very friendly and comfortable

Family of 4 (adult children) stopped here for a night on our way to Edinburgh. The hotel was redesigned to a hotel in the 1980s from a historical building from the 1880s. Decor is original from both centuries. It is in need of major updates. However, beds were fine and shower worked ok. The walls are thin and we were happy our neighbors didn’t talk loud all night. I’d keep searching for another spot if I were you, but the stay here was adequate.

Friendly overnight stay in Carlisle

Old building with character in a good position on main road going into Carlisle from South with good parking. Very friendly and helpful staff and excellent value for money. Good sized room but not much furniture

Staff were very polite, but the breakfast was average and a little greasy, but they were very attentive. The facilities were very dated and our window didn't shut properly and there was not another room for us to go to, not a massive issue in the end though as it was pretty quiet outside. Overall was a pleasant stay and would stay again, I would recommend maybe some uniforms and some modernising of the rooms though and maybe purchase something that cooks with less fat as well.

2/10 Poor

RIP off hotel, clearly double booked the room and failed to honour the booking with hotels.com that was made months in advance of the rat run the wall ultra marathon race. Profiteering….claimed to have no relationship with hotels.com, no evidence of the booking except on review I found an invite on the hotels.com messaging service for online checkin. This caused a great deal of stress for myself and my wife to find alternative accommodation in an over booked town. Luckily we found a pub, 25 minutes away……

I found this place as needed somewhere at last minute. It was almost half the price of a premier inn or travelodge but still had everything you get in one of them. Slept really well. Courtesy call from hotel as it was getting close to 11pm and I hadn’t checked in. I’d stay again.

Out side looked amazing was clean but room I stayed in was in need of modernising for the £90 wasn’t worth the money

Reception was great very friendly and helpful. Rooms are very basic, but there is a lot of ambient noise from other rooms upstairs and neighbouring rooms. Generally, the building is tired both internally and externally. I was woken a couple of times in the night by very noisy neighbours and unfortunately you can hear the use of other bathrooms in neighbouring rooms which is rather unpleasant.

Eww

Terrible. Dilapidated. Worn. Dirty. Smelly. Wife and kids refused to take a shower and no way we were taking a chance on breakfast. Saving grace- it was only a 1 night stay.

Really Poor

You get what you pay for, a roof over my head for the night. The room was awful and certainly not clean or warm. It had a smell , sorry to say I felt dirty when I left, the carpet must have been 25 years old, just crap. The guy on reception was nice, the only positive. The building is fab and is in desperate need of some tlc inside and out. I wont be back, shame was some investment it would be fab.

Dystopian. Do not book. Filthy hole.

Shocking. Arrived to the ‘girl’ slumped in her chair on her phone and couldn’t care a less. Handed me my keys and told me room 4. Room 4 freezing cold, window left open and damp. A tiny water radiator heater to plug into the wall which had only just warmed the room by morning. The room and bathroom were filthy. The shower head was broken and mould all over the walls. The furniture was shabby, the bed base was disgusting and filthy, carpets filthy and sticky. Hairdryer sparked green sparks, made loud noises and died, so I was left with wet hair. I had to sleep in my coat to stay warm. The building is falling apart and is filthy inside and out. There are cracks in the ceiling with water ingress and dodgy electrical wiring held together with tape. The breakfast was ok. Another guest had to let staff know I’d arrived for breakfast and the same girl from the night before arrived and was on her phone the entire sitting. Had I not travelled 9 hours, I would have left and found somewhere else. Seriously Hotels.com this place should not be listed. It is distopian. I know it was cheap but the basic human needs were not met.

We had a comfortable stay, bed was clean and comfortable, however never had 2 pillows in one case before… !! Unfortunately we had a snorer below but heyho, the shower didn’t have much pressure but towels were nice and it was good to have shower n shampoo… but no conditioner but the use of a hairdryer was good 👍 breakfast was ok, overall good 2 star hotel thanks for having us 🙏

Dissapointed and concerned

The shower didn't work and there was no one in the building to help. The phone numbers listed, there were 2 similar with a single number changed looked like it was a typo, but that didn't matter because both numbers were not connected, completly useless no way of having a shower that morning. Also the kettle was dirty and the kettle lid had a crack in it that was probably dangerous.

Hair in my shower, bed was not comfortable. People living in the hotel. Smoking where you want to access rooms. The level of upkeep in the photos is not representative of how the hotel is currently.
Carl, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

Decent room, clean and perfectly serviceable, plenty of hot water for showers. Much better than some of the reviews make you think. I guess it depends what you're used to? Breakfast was good as well, cooked to order, served on a hot plate, decent quality and quantity. While I might not bring my wife here for a romantic weekend, I'd be more than happy to stay with mates or for a work trip, so will be back in future when I'm in the area.

Ergh... Avoid!!

The hotel made us give loads of personal data ahead of time (photos, driving license images etc) and gave a key code to access keys but there was a reception. There seemed to be a bar but it was pumping loud, awful music so we didn't investigate. The room was horrible, old and poorly maintained. It was horribly hot with weird poor quality furniture in odd places (they clearly wanted a wardrobe but had no space so it was up against the entrance door.) what a shame as the exterior was immaculate.
K, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

Very tired and out of date

The outside of the hotel is ok. Walking in and to reception we started to get an air of faded gradiour. Quality tiles but a feeling of it all being rather tired. We made our way to room 27 and found this was down a side corridor. The room was adequate but again felt very tired. Tiny flat screen TV about 18"! Bathroom had some black mould in. Shower was an old electric one. Furniture dated. Overall it just felt very 80's and needing to be smartened up. But it was adequate and the beds were comfy enough. Breakfast was ok, nothing special, but again adequate. There was muesli, cornflakes. bran flakes and I think something else, jugs of orange and apple juice and a cooked option. The menu had kippers on it with a sticker over it, just indicative of the tired nature of the hotel. This hotel needs bringing into the 21st century. I believe the current owner bought it 2-3 years ago but from what we saw hasn't invested in it. It's a shame as it could be much nicer, but probably needs a good but of investment in new bathrooms, decoration, carpets etc.

Very welcoming staff, who went out of their way to accommodate us with a late check-in and check out. My children really enjoyed our stay in this cosy hotel in Carlisle!

La struttura andrebbe rinnovata. In particolare il bagno era veramente antiquato (tra l'altro la doccia era talmente fioca che non abbiamo potuto utilizzarla).

Worsted hotel I’ve ever stopped in

I checked in on the 22nd,this hotel needs condemning holes in the wall shower that can only be described as a minging. It felt overwhelming to spend any time in the room so I left within a hour and found a Days inn which was 100% more in keeping to how a hotel room should be,very disappointed with the experience and would not stay at this hotel ever again in the future.
