4/10 Fair

The low point of a 6 night road trip
I will start by saying the staff was kind and gracious. The arrival and hotel lobby were impressive, the city center was nice. The rooms seem to be maintained well by housekeeping.
Unfortunately we stayed in Motel room 4252 for one night during a roadtrip of the NV/AZ/UT national parks.
Upon entering our room, there was an overwhelming odor which was absorbed into everything in the unit. My wife usually cannot smell much of anything and even she noted her sinuses were burning. I went to reception to speak about the issue, unfortunately the person in line in front of me was ALSO complaining about a bad smell in THEIR unit and they were assigned the last remaining open unit on the property and all other hotels within a 90 min radius were full.
Based on the Lodge's inability to provide an alternate room, we were stuck with staying in the room or our car on a below freezing night.
Despite the 9/10 rating, Searching prior reviews for 'smell', it appears this has been a recurring feedback for certain users in motel class rooms. Despite the housekeeping staff doing a very good job of maintaining the room, it appears some units require actual remediation and they seem to be treating it with chemical treatments to offset/mask some other underlying condition rather than resolving it.
It's unfortunate as it seems most of the property, particularly the hotel rooms are nice, but the back wing of the Motel is in need of attention and failing to receive it.
