Travemuende

Travemuende lures beach lovers to its sandy Baltic shores and maritime heritage spots. The oldest lighthouse in Germany stands proudly since 1539, while the four-masted Passat ship offers seafaring history lessons. Beachgoers spread out on the wide sands, taking breaks to wander the bustling waterfront promenade where ferries glide towards Scandinavia. Seafood restaurants and beach cafes serve fresh Baltic catches with harbour views. Stay in seaside hotels or holiday apartments with spa amenities and ocean vistas. Regional trains connect from Lübeck in just 20 minutes, making this walkable resort town an easy day trip or longer seaside escape.

Lübeck Old Town

Lübeck Old Town feels like a red-brick fairy tale come to life. Wander cobblestone streets past the twin-towered Holstentor gate and soaring Gothic churches that have stood for centuries. The ornate Rathaus and Buddenbrook House showcase the city's rich Hanseatic heritage. Museum Holstentor and the European Hansemuseum offer fascinating glimpses into medieval merchant life. Traditional North German restaurants serve fresh Baltic seafood and the city's famous marzipan. Most of the historic centre is blissfully car-free, making it perfect for exploring on foot. Boutique hotels in converted merchant houses offer cosy places to rest after a day of sightseeing among these remarkably preserved UNESCO treasures.
