Exploring Mooloolaba

The Sunshine Coast settlement of Mooloolaba, situated less than 60 miles north of Brisbane, has become one of the trendiest sections of this popular beach getaway. Most Mooloolaba hotels, not surprisingly, are located along its crescent-shaped namesake beach. One of the more affordable options in this skyscraper-filled resort is the three-star Twin Pines Motel. Another popular accommodation option is a self-catering apartment like those at the four-star Sailport Mooloolaba Apartment.

The majority of Mooloolaba hotels are situated not far from the Esplanade, which is home to most of the area's upscale restaurants and bars, as well as the Underwater World theme park. The community's cheapest hostels and campgrounds stand behind the beachfront apartments. Sea kayaking, boating along the Mooloolaba Wharf, and even tandem skydiving are among the most popular outdoor activities.

- Mooloolaba Beach

Mooloolaba's namesake beach may be considered the safest on the entire Sunshine Coast due to its low waves, but surfers can nonetheless enjoy the low breaks which extend up to a metre high near the surf lifesaving club. The entrance walls and harbour side are the best fishing spots, while the park next to the harbour entrance is the shadiest spot on this crescent-shaped beach.

- Underwater World Sea Life

A freshwater crocodile lives in this popular aquarium which is considered the best in all of Queensland. Zebra, gray nurse, and white-tip reef sharks are merely the biggest and the fiercest of the sea creatures visitors will encounter through the viewing windows of the 80m shark tunnel, while seven seals from Australia and New Zealand live on Seal Island. The Crawly Creatures exhibit features some of the world's largest crustaceans.

High-rise apartments and hotels flank the north end of this more than 10 kilometre long beach between Point Cartwright and the mouth of Curramundi Creek.
