Exploring Perth

Since WWII, Perth has drastically developed itself into a thriving metropolis, thanks largely to the booming mining industry in Western Australia. The state capital, which holds a growing population of two million people, is an ideal destination for a fun, relaxing, historic, or culture-filled holiday. Even though Perth is among the most isolated cities in Australia, this endearing metropolis manages to attract a huge number of visitors each year. With sites like the fascinating Perth Zoo, the English-influenced Queens Gardens, and the culturally-interesting Art Gallery of Western Australia at tourists’ fingertips, it’s easy to see why the city draws so many visitors.

For tourists who want to travel in style, Perth offers several luxurious five-star hotels. Most of these accommodation choices are located in the city centre, while others fringe the downtown district. Tourists will find some of the biggest names in the high-end hotel market within Perth’s central area. Another appealing feature of these hotels is the fact that they are just a few steps from Perth’s grandest landmarks. Of course, the city’s convenient public transportation can always help tourists to get where they want to go.

Sights nearby

Perth’s tourist landscape is an envious collection of memorable landmarks, many of which stand close to some of Australia’s most beautiful luxury hotels.

- Queens Gardens

Queens Gardens was first established in 1899 and sit on the eastern end of Hay Street, adjacent to the famous WACA Ground. The world-class Hyatt Regency Perth is just 100 meters from the park, so guests can easily walk here to enjoy the mellow ambience and picturesque settings. Arguably the highlight of the park, aside from its vast green spaces, is the Peter Pan statue which stands in centre.

- Murray Street Mall

Home to an exciting range of shopping and entertaining attractions, Murray Street Mall is the pedestrianised centre of Murray Street. The heart of the mall is Forrest Place, one of the best shopping and dining arcades in the city. This mall is famous for its shopping arcades, many of which link to the nearby Hay Street Mall, including Carillion City Arcade and Plaza Arcade. There are no hotels on the mall, but the five-star Parmelia Hilton Perth is only 400 metres away.

- Northbridge

Just to the north of the Central Business District (CBD), Northbridge is famous for its ethnic diversity. This has led to a unique culture throughout the district, with plenty of fascinating restaurants and cultural attractions to be discovered. It is among Perth’s major nightlife centers, so after an evening of Asian or Mediterranean dining, visitors can dance the night away in one of the many clubs or pubs in Northbridge. The suburb can be reached on foot from the CBD.

Eating and drinking and shopping nearby

Most of the high-end shopping areas in Perth are located in the city centre, along the pedestrian-friendly malls at Murray Street and Hay Street. The corner of Kings Street is where many luxury designers operate, including the likes of Gucci and Burberry. Boutique shops are also found in nearby Northbridge and other spots in the CBD. Upmarket restaurants are located in Northbridge, not to mention in Subiaco and the city centre. Fine dining can be found at the Crown Metropol Perth and the Pan Pacific Perth. Some magnificent clubs and bars are situated within Perth’s many five-star hotels.

Public transport

Perth is one of the easiest cities in Australia to explore using public transportation. Buses are not only convenient, but free in several parts of the city. The Central Area Transit (CAT) is free when travelling within the downtown area of Perth, Joodnalup, and the centre of Fremantle. Trains are another convenient way to get around Perth. Most lines originate from Perth Central Railway Station, which rests between Northbridge and the CBD. Free CAT train services are available too, but only for those passengers holding SmartRider cards.
